Another Poll: Best Ranged Weapon?

Post by fishhead »

Hey Guys, which weapons do you think is the ranged one. My thief uses the Heavy Crossbow, I think it is called the Hair of the Giant or something like that.

The best ranged weapon is the Sling of Everard. It's +5, doesn't need ammo, and can be used in one hand. Seeking Sling is also nice with high strength characters.

For my Archer I'm using short bows. When I need the firepower I used the one that gives +1 attack. To conserve ammo I use Tansheron or Gessen.

For crossbows I like the Heavy Crossbow of Searing.

If you are a good aligned fighter AZUREDGE (Bernard - Copper Coronet) is the best missile weapon in the game. +3 and slays undead. I had one of the Vamps that gives the "I'll squash you like a bug" speach (in a street encounter) go down on the first hit! You don't need to have a seperate proficency for your missle weapon and Axes (to +3) are plentiful from the start.

The Tuigan Bow +1 gives 3 attacks per round so Nalia/Imoen get 3 attacks instead of 1. Although there are more individually powerful bows, for a non-fighter the Tuigan Bow is unbeatable (uses A LOT of arrows though). - Curdis

Tansheron's Bow is the best ranged weapon. Not because it does not need ammo but because it is REALLY +3 ranged weapon. Mana Bows, etc. are +4 as far as your thac0 is concerned but their level depends on the arrows, therefore +2 at most.
Sling of Everard is even better but you need bonus merchants (Joluv).
Gesen's Bow isn't so good because it fires electrical bolts and many monsters are immune to electricity. Worse, Flesh Golems and Lesser Clay Golems are healed by electricity.

Actually the best ranged weapon is the Black Pig's of Destruction "Notorius Fart"(TM) attack, but since this should be mostly considered a "special attack" and not a weapon, I should go for the +5 sling and the Geshen Bow (the latter obtained too late in the game, but is still usefull).
