Demogorgon in the Underdark - where the !*#! is he?
This is driving me crazy - I'm in the Underdark by the Demogorgon statue. I've killed the 4 demons after sacrificing a rabid dog on the altar, got the Girdle of FGS etc., but I can't seem to get any further. I can't collapse the tunnel until I've killed him, and I can't kill him until I find him ? ?
I've searched the board and can only find stuff on HOW to kill him (I know that already - hit the bugger hard ), and there was a mention of the silver dragon opening the locked drow door to the NW of the dungeon. I haven't come across this dragon, and I didn't wanna read up too much on him 'cos I don't like spoilers.
I've looked everywhere down there, returned to the surface and been told that I should go back when the quest is finished. Doh!
Have I missed something out (I haven't been down to the MInd Flayer dungeon yet, but I shouldn't think I need to do that first).
Can you help me out? My walls are getting full of head-shaped dents.

The tunnel you should be collap´sing is not this one, it´s a shaft on the gnome village to the north of the underdark, where you face a Balor (not as tough as the 5 Demon Knights).
After that, you get a gem with will able you to find the Silver Dragon (and get into the Drow City by consequence). You have a few underdark hours still ahead of you.
There are shortcuts, but you will miss in both XP rewards and fun.

...nearly forgot
... and what's the score with those tadpole thingies? I dropped contaminated ones into the Kukkies water supply (after I'd killed 'em all, inc. the prince). Nothing happened, except that I tainted their water. Have I missed out on some XP or something equally cool here?
Full of Qs tonite, but I'm well stuck.

Wow, thx Leonardo for that quick reply. Is it really the wrong tunnel? When I exit it, it reminds me that I need to kill the demogorgon before I use the scroll. It's the tunnel just to the SW of the little gnome village.
I'll have a wander around and try to find the other tunnel, but I can't remember seeing it. On the map there's the gnome village, to the SE is my tunnel, to the west is the dark tunnel that I can't enter until I get the light gem, and to the south somewhere is the entrance to the MF party.
I'll give it another go tomorrow. My eyes are closing and I ain't got matchsticks.
Cheers again for the info.

As Phantom Lord wrote, you do not face Demogorgon in SoA. Don't think Demogorgon right now; don't think Demogorgon for a looooong time, yet. Trust me.
I won't spoil anything for you, but believe me when I say it'll all be a surprise and a load of fun.

Demogorgon (possible spoilers)
Dour Von Zlo ... I know it's real freaky confusing and scary being in the Underdark .. I was on max tenterhooks there ..
Okay here's the help ... The Underdark has 5 zones that you can enter via area exit points (wheel icons or stair icons or door way icons).
- The Kuo Toa Tunnel in the West (in a dark alley, behind where you must have killed some Myconids and just before you meet the three Swirneblin guys hanging out near a bridge)
SPOILER:
- The Beholder Tunnel in the East
- The Illithid (Mindflayer Tunnel) also in the East / South East
- Ust Natha
- Adalon's Lair
You would have reached Kuo Toa Tunnel from the West Tunnel and killed the Prince ( I hope you remembered to take his blood) .. you will need it later .. IT is here that you find the Demogorgon Staue that needs satisfying with sacrifice.
The MONSTER that the Swirfneblin Head talks about is not this one. He is talking about Balor ... and Balor can be found in the MAIN area of the Underdark ... you do not need to make any area exits to any of the 5 above listed areas.
As you wind into the Swirneblin village (it's a circuitous road) you will see it also branch off east and then North again towards an area ... a Swirfnebliner will meet you here and say that he is glad you arrived and that he is leaving (or something like that) ... You enter an enclosure where there is a pit ... and a rope hanging from there that you can manipulate .. If you manipulate that rope Balor comes up and you have to fight him. Be well prepared if you aren't a very high level yet .. because he can be quite tough.
Don't forget to save before you pull him up .. because you might have to reload ... (I doubt you will lose tho' .. since you say you have already despatched some toughies in the Demogorgon area.
I hope this helps .. sleepy eyes .. Best of Luck!!

Wow, thanks guys for all that response. I've just come home after a looong day (I hate Wednesdayz), and reading all this has got me itching to plunge back into the Underdark (just wish I didn't have to translate a text about false teeth tonite - maybe it can wait a couple of hours. Priorities are priorities after all )
So yeah, I WAS a bit confised when I entered the UD. First I went down the Mind Flayer dungeon, but thought that I might come out in a totally different area, thus missing out on loads of stuff so I reloaded and went to the Swirneblin village instead, deciding to sort the MFs out later.
I didn't have any real probs down there, although those four demons who popped up after the rabid dog snuffed it on the altar took a couple (okay, four) attempts. I hate cheesy playing, so I wanted to slug it out as it should be done.
So, now I'm off to look for the Balor and haul him up for a beating - strange that - I'm sure I explored pretty much all of that area and don't remember seeing him. Still, when your eyes are glued together it's easy to miss stuff.
Leonardo, I'm handsomer (see avatar, although it's ten years old) - does this mean I can be a Supreme Godlike member?). Oh well, I'm halfway there...
Signing off and buckling up...(I'll let you all know how I got my ass kicked later )

@Dour
Yeah, I wish I could get paid to wage war against the horrid denizens of the Underdark...I'd rather do that instead of waging war against shipping computers and warehouse equipment!
I'm not into cheesy playing either, but here are some protection spells you might try out on your party when in dangerous areas, especially when there are MInd Flayers and Umber Hulks about:
Chaotic Commands - gives you immunity to the stunning psionic blast of the Mind Flayers and the confusing stare of Umber Hulks. Also makes the protected character immune to charm person and domination.
Protection from evil, 10' radius - A good general purpose spell that gives you a bonus to your saving throws.
Hopefully, you have at least one cleric in your party.
When combat begins, cast Bless, Defensive Harmony, and Resist Fear. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to cast Free Action on at least one of your front line fighters - preferably one who has a poor "save vs. spells" saving throw, such as Minsc.
Have fun in the Underdark!

I think that most people would agree that the Illithid dungeon is the most difficult one and the Kua Toa dungeon is probably the easiest one, those Demon Nights are the only real problem there - which is compensated by some of the best loot in the game. So if you've managed to clean out the Illithids, there's not much too fear. Which doesn't mean that anything is easy. Btw, many people who play BG2 more than once might use to clean out all three dungeons before entering the Drow city. There's no penalty for doing it.
Some small hints (don't read if you don't want / like /need spoilers):
There's a side quest that enables one of the Svirneblin quests, if you look around the main cavern you'll certainly find it.
In the Drow city you should try to solve quests in time. Otherwise you'll experience a strange phenomen, which lead to many questions in this forum in the past.
There is one real good side quest in the Drow city - to avoid heavy spoilers, I just tell you that you should buy a certain rope if someone approaches you about it.

You have to haul it up
Dour Von Zlo ...
I hope you managed to play through ... But as I read your response
"I'm sure I explored pretty much all of that area and don't remember seeing him."
I thought I should once more reiterate that .. you won't SEE him when you enter that area .. you have to go inside the enclosure near a pit .. where a rope stair like thing is hanging and manipulate that ... Balor appears only after that action.
Best of luck.

Yup, there he was, tucked away down a little alley that I hadn't noticed.
I pulled him up and booted him back down again, my pally managing it pretty much on his own (with PFE, Imp. Haste and biiiiiiiiig muscles), although he was redded out up to the eyebrows when the gristle finally sprayed.
Phantom, I haven't been down the Illithid dungeon yet. I only had a quick look and then reloaded back to the main room 'cos I thought it might be a one-way trip and I didn't want to miss anything. I'm just about to head down there now.
As for spells, I know chaotic commands is a must - but my frontman has quite high resistance to lots of evil stuff and he tends to wade in there and insert the steel while the others (Jah., Nalia and Minsc...oh yeah, and Imoen for the time being) sit at the back and snipe. Yeah, and Def. Harmony's great, aint it? Pity it doesn't last a bit longer...
I can understand how someone could solo on a paladin, but it's beyond me how they can do it with a lone thief or mage. This is my first time thru (playing on core ALL the time, mostly with those first 3 NPCs), so maybe next time I'll go for the big challenge, or maybe as a duo.
Off to get my mind flayed. More gibberish sometime soon.
