Anybody else heard about that DirectX 9.1 beta rant?

Post by Chris Boney »

Today on the forums on http://www.elderscrolls.com I found a thread, stating in the headline, that Morrowind runs tons better with Directx 9.x beta. Unfortunately I couldn't read the thread, because Bethesda's server is really slow, and I haven't been able to load this page for the last two hours. Though I can remember, that the thread had quite some responses, a dozen or so, I wonder, if anybody is here who could affirm this ?

Thx in advance, Boney

don't know about the thread that you read on that forum cause the site seems to be down again, but I went to microsofts website and found no mention of directx 9.1.

This needs to be done by someone with XP because it has the built in "System Restore Point" which enables you to reset back to a point before the install if something goes wrong. Hehe maybe I'll get brave today and backup my PC thus enabling me to do a wipe if it does a meltdown. Just takes so long to to backup, wipe, format, install 98SE and newest drivers. One of you XP guys could test it way faster :)

Windows offered that feature as far back as Win 98, though SCANREG wasn't exactly intuitive in its access or use. ;)

Well I found an article on this beta. Number 1 its time limited till August 2002 meaning at that time you will have to reinstall your OS unless you are a registered tester for Microsoft. Heck here ya go, just read it yourself :) http://twg.mikemth.de:1027/modules.php? ... e&artid=39

*valiantly raises his hand for voluntary testing*
I did it, have XP, set the system restore point.. but the result was a bit disappointing, at least to me. MW just runs normally as before with the 9.0 beta, no mentionable FP increase as some others reportet. I have an athlon 1.3ghz, 256ram, geforce2mx with 64ram. I run MW in 1024*860 with AI very near, shadows completly off, sight max is really choppy, sight mininum results in 50 fps indoors and 28 outdoors. with sight maximum i get 11fps outdoors which is a bit .. well, not the best :p

Maybe somebody who has had a ton of fp increase could post his system specs + fps here, too please.

Thanks and this pretty much confirms what the reviewer also stated. Well not actually a review since this is a beta and should be treated as such Thanks again.
