The best item you have found

Post by Doc Atlas »

Hey folks, I was wondering what you thought was the single best item you have obtained in the game (not counting items you enchanted or that you got enchanted by an npc). I want to drool over some cool loot!

My favorite item so far is the Boots of Blinding Speed. Makes it so you can actually go to your stronghold once in a while, haha.
They are light armor and the stats are speed +200 , blind 100% on self. Speed +200 is VERY VERY fast to say the least. The speed makes you jump a lot farther as well which is quite useful in a lot of cases.

I counteracted the blindness with a bit of gamma correction in video options and presto, these are some kick ass boots! And in case anyone was wondering, 100% blind does not actually make you completely blind, it just makes everything much darker, hence the gamma correction.

Best item I found so far is a light armor leather cuirass with an armorrating over 200 and constant effect resist magic 60 %.

Jodmos, it sounds like you're describing the Cuirass of the Saviour's Hide. If so -- in my game at least -- it was heavy armor, not light. Nice piece of armor, the only one better-ish is the dragonbone cuirass (333 armor with 100 heavy armor skill, and 100% resist fire constant effect).

The best item I've found is the Black Hands dagger. See the 'Best weapon in the game, bar none' thread from a few days ago for details.

Wierd, I just checked it and it is the cuirass of the saviors Hide.
Its light armor, weighing 15 stones and has an armorrating of 266.
If you tell me how to post screenshots I post one of it.

No need, I take your word for it. There's a couple of well documented armor bugs, so this could easily be one of them. For example, dreugh armor is supposed to be medium and indoril is supposed to be heavy. In many games, dreugh is heavy and indoril is medium. Sometimes. Sometimes the armor type even changes during the same game, even multiple times.

I can easily believe the same applies to the Saviour's Hide, although in this case with a difference of light and heavy armor.

Btw, for screenshots, open up your morrowind.ini file with a text editor like notepad. Find where it says screenshots = 0 and change it to screenshots = 1. Then whenever you play, you can just hit the printscreen key and get a screenshot. Just FYI.

where the heck are you guys gettting these armor ratings from??? I have yet to see any armor with higher than 80 AR. I mean even in the TES there are only 4 with a 100 and those are the highest. the Saviors Hide only shows a AR of 80 in the TES. what gives??

Based on max value of the appropriate armor skill. I believe the formular is 333% of absolute value of the armor. For example, Dragonbone cuirass has an absolute value of 100 and an armor rating of 333 with heavy armor 100. Glass armor has a rating of 50, 166 with light armor 100.

I haven't experimented with artificially raising armor skills above 100 to see if armor rating continues to rise alongside, but that's possible too.

Thx Devito =)

I knew how to make screenies, but how do I post em, copy the shot into the posting or do I need Webspace for it ?

Maybe the saviors Hide is scriptet so it is whatever armor skill is your highest.

i too have the dragonbone barmor, and looks ok, but my heavy armor skill is only at 60, or so, so what i was wondering is the guy at vivec arena, who trains heavy armor, do you need to be in fighters guild or anything like that????

Jodmos: yeah, you need to have uploaded the image onto a website someplace. You can link to the image from here, but you can't upload it directly onto the BB.

UF: No, the heavy armor trainer in Vivec - the secret master - doesn't require you to be a part of any guild.

UserUnfriendly: I used that guy to train heavy and the only guild I was in at the time was fighter... So if you can't get him to train you it should be that.

@cjdevito:

Thanks for the info concerning screenshots. I was wondering how to do that. You made my day. :)

Avatars...

Oh, btw, you can create an avatar for use on this board from a screenshot of your player. Put it in an image editor, crop what you want out of the image, reduce it (if necessary) to 50 pixels x 50 pixels, upload it, and enjoy! (I'm thinking of using a pic of a chicken for my next avatar...)

You can upload it using the "user cp" feature of the board.
