For me my first two times through I had a party..minsc, jahaira, anomen, imoen and myself a paladin (undead fighter).
Second time i had, minsc, jahaira, viconia, imoen and myself a priest of helm.

3rd time Solo Monk
4th time still going Solo sorcerer..

these are just games that i actually finished or will finish. I've played with a bunch of other kits and stuff but never finished with em.

I'm not quite sure what you meant but I guess you wanted to know with whom I was when the game ended. So here goes
Myself (a female invoker)
Anomen
Keldorn
Minsc
Nalia
Aerie
I hope that's what you wanted to know. I liked them all except Nalia who was with me only out of necessity...

Elf Fighter/Mage
Minsc
Jaheira
Aerie
Nalia/Jan/Imoen
Anomen

contrary to many opinions, I found Anomen to be a powerhouse by ch 4-5, and Jaheira wound up taking my place as Lead Attacker with AC -9 and Belm + a club. I've got several new games going, experiemnting with Soloing and different NPC configs. My fave so far is:

Totemic Druid
Jaheira
Minsc
Jan
Cernd
Valygar

having only one mage, and him a multi-class has forced me to jettison most of my combat habits. However, I'm not sure the tree-huggin love-fest I've created won't wear thin after a while...

In my opinion this is the best team possible (without evil NPC's)
1.Yourself (beserker)
2.Keldorn
3.Minsc
4.Jaheira
5.Aerie
6.Imoen ( first Yoshimo the traitor)

Anomen sux cause I don't like his arrogant voice. Every time I see his face, I'd like to kill it Image , and besides, he's a crappie fighter ( but a good cleric) Image

I change characters at a regular interval, maybe because I've done their quest or because they're so f***ing annoying (Anomen we me YOU!). But I never, at any point in the game abandoned Aerie (my love interest) or Minsc. Now I haven't completed the game and Edwin and Jaheira are in almost every quest with me, but I don't ever intend on abandoning Aerie or Minsc, they're now to damn good.

In descending order:

Keldorn, with Carsomyr

Jaheira, with Water's Edge and the Sentinal

Rangar, (human archer) with short bow of Gesen

Minsc, with Lilarcor and the Heartseeker

Aerie, with Crom Faeyr Image

Imoen, with the Staff of the Magi

I abandoned my first game in chapter 4 since I was getting pounded way too regularly. I played a Blade with Minsc, Jaheira, Viconia, Jan and Valygar. The only one who held her own was Viconia.

Second try, I'm playing an Undead Slayer and took two more custom NPCs: a HE Avenger and a Dw Beserker. Added Aeire and Yoshimo and am cruising through the early going.

Thinking about trading Yoshi for Jan though....

Half Elf Fighter/Thief/Mage from BG I.
Minsc

Keldorn
Imoen

Currently;

Yoshimo
Edwin
Korgan

I notice most people are using a full 6-person party. I knocked mine down to 5 and haven't noticed it get any harder - the opposite in fact, since everyone is advancing quicker.

Any opinions on an optinal party size?

I'm in about Chapter 4 or 5 (Brynlaw just before Spellhold) with a two person party (another Kensai/Mage and a dualed Cleric/Thief). Pretty good combo - IMHO.

There are people who have solo'd the game too. Guess it's another one of those personal preference thingys. Image
