Find familiar

I have tried several times to cast find familiar, but everytime I get the same result. NOTHING! exept for the text "only the protagist(or something) may cast find familiar". But what does this mean ?
Who can cast this spell ?
Not Imoen and no Aarie....

Ah, the never ending familiar problem.
The protagonist is the main character, you!
No one but yourself can cast Find Familiar.
