After reading Chris Boney's thread, I decided to try for myself - and he's right. Alchemy rocks! It even complements Enchantment rather nicely. Let's see what a level 1 char can do:
- You can get a complete Master's set of tools from upstairs in Caldera's Mage Guild. Steal it, no one's watching.
Money making:
-------------------
In Balmora's Fine Alchemist, buy 10 muck and 10 alit's hide (they're cheap). Exit barter screen. Barter again. She has replenished her stock. Sell her the muck and alit's hide. Exit and barter again. She has now doubled her stock. Repeat until she permanently sells some 500 muck and 500 alit's hide. Now buy her stock and keep it.
With the muck and alit's hide, you can brew 500 Drain Intelligence potions (don't use them yourself ). If your Intelligence and your Alchemy skill are both reasonable, you can sell them for >150 gold each. That's ~80K gold, much quicker than trapping 20 Ancestor Ghost souls for the same amount.
Temporary Boosting:
--------------------------
Want to enchant that 120 point exquisite ring without failing and without paying 70K gold? No prob. Brew 20 Fortify Intelligence potions and 20 Fortify Luck potions (that takes 5 seconds, provided you have the ingredients) and swill them. The effects STACK! You now have >1000 Int. and Luck.
Want to cast that 100 fire/100 frost/100 shock/100 poison area effect nuclear blast? With 1000 Intelligence you have 3000 mana, and now you only need to drink Fortify Willpower potions to get a good chance of success in casting the spell.
Or you can drink 20 Fortify Strength and Agility for 100 seconds and rip your enemies to shreds with your bare hands. Remember, you can't be interrupted while drinking potions!
I now roam Vvardenfell, picking every flower and mushroom while giggling like a lunatic on the road to power .
Alchemy is INCREDIBLE!
