Ust Natha Egg Quest - possible spoiler

Post by Chiefthawk »

I got the quest to enter the palace treasury to switch the dragon eggs. I was told to 'sneak' in and make the exchange. Well, I tried to 'sneak' in some 20 times using every way I know and I got caught every time turning the whole palace and town hostile. I finally decided that if I can't sneak them I will have to beat them. I killed the whole palace, fought my way out of town, gave Adalon the eggs and left.
How do you make the switch without pissing EVERYONE off?
Thx,
Thawk

I used improved invisability, I managed to get out and only piss off the guardian golems.

I just stuck a fighter beside both of the 'egg guards' then paused, and ordered my figthers to take a whack at em at the same time. theyre extremely easy to kill, it was one shot each for me. then i hasted ran in and got the eggs, and closed the door on the golems without even bothering to worry about killing them. then u go back to the female fightin guild and tell the girl that you did it and she gets overjoyed and tells u to go back to the temple. on the way, you might meet souflein if you let him go and didnt kill him. hell give u a second set of fake eggs and you give THOSE to the matrons daughter later on

Always found it a bit strange why the two weakest drow fighters would be left to guard the drows' most valuble asset...

So...

When you kill the two guards, that does not hostile the rest of the palace? Hmm, I'll have to try that. Thanks!

Egg Stealing

What I did was ..
Enter the Egg Palace with the whole team ... and stay just there .. very near the exit door .. I took only Nalia (my mage) with her Boots of Speed on and equipped with Staff of Magi which makes her invisible .. (if you don't have the staff .. Improved Invisibility should also work) to the gates of the Egg Room.

Open the door ... go straight to the Egg Box .. open .. switch eggs .. rush straight out to your team waiting near door .. get whole team out of Egg Palace .. and run till you are inside Phaere's house again.

The strategy worked ... BUT while doing this:

- Door Egg Guards may OR may not turn hostile ... it's unnerving if they do .. But I still ignored them ... They don't follow you inside the room .. But might give chase while you are headed to Phaere's house .. Kill them .. damn easy. But chances are they don't follow .... I had to play this couple of times and diff reactions from Egg Guards happened.

- Golems turn hostile immediately ... and I noticed they give chase and the whole palace chases even while you are outside the Egg Palace ONLY if you forget to replace the stolen eggs with the fake eggs ... (I guess the Golems and the rest react to some some alarm setting off .. they check box .. see fake eggs and think all's fine .. so they don't chase ... Well I did not hang around to find out ofcourse :p )
Otherwise altho' it's verrrrrry unnerving to be a weak mage in the midst of a room full of Golems gone hostile .. with Boots of speed you can give them the slip. Staying back to fight anyone inside the Egg Palace will only end up waking up more people in the city to the theft.

Running fast as possible .. and doing a deft switch in invisible mode was my best strategy. Keep your cool and not panic

keep cool? my main character wouldnt shed a bead of sweat in a golem-filled room :D gotta love fighters

ill sum up what i said, just to clerify. i killed the egg gaurds (all my party huddled around them, out of every other drow's sight but the egg guards) slaughtered the guards, then ran in and switched the eggs. the golems did go hostile, but i ran out and shut the door on em. they cant open doors so they just stayed put and no one else went hostile toward me. it was a cake walk, i didnt see one red circle when i told phaera (or whatever her name is) or when i walked back to the temple.

ONE time though... i killed everyone... bloody mess, i even killed the matron mother... i suppose thats an alternate ending to going through with the egg switch trick, massacring an entire city of drow for dragon eggs.

Take one fighter character with a potion of absorbtion (available from the drow traders), whack the guards by the door and the golems and swipe the eggs. The potion of absorbtion gives a -10 bonus to AC vs blunt attacks.
