Hello all
At their most fundamental level I suppose that games are just a bunch of questions, and it is the way in which you answer these questions that determines the outcome....
Debating the validity of that argument or not is not my reason for posting, what I would like to ask is:
"Do you base the decisions that you make in BG2 upon what you know/suspect will give you the best outcome or what you feel your character would do (ie do you role-play your decisions)?"
I am faced with these kinds of problems all the time:
It could be something like choosing to do a quest or not based upon the requestor's motives/allignment/reputation (read: Do I do the quest for that evil lord guy in the CC??).
Or it could be choosing to open a chest in a peasants house and peek inside to see if there is anything good (suspecting that there isn't mechanics in the game to make my Paladin fallen if he looks the other way whilst my thief goes to do some "recon"!).
Anyway, I don't think that there is a right or wrong way, I am just interested to hear what other people think about this and how they make their decisions.
Regards

Roleplaying vs Powerplaying? That's an old, old argument. I'm a roleplayer, but others will feel differently. I'm sure you'll get plenty of replies--we've certainly had this debate here, before.

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
I guess I'm a Powergamer. I always base my conversations and actions in a way that everything goes as planned in the game. I don't try to make anyone mad that I shouldn't, and I kill the guys I'm not supposed to work with (morally). I've never really thought of this change of perspectives before...

I have a rather simple way of role-playing a paladin but still looting a peasant's home- yon paladin is off aiding the down-trodden whilst Yoshimo wanders away to... er... locate needed funds. It actually makes sense, too... why WOULDN'T a thief raid a chest when the paladin's back is turned? So long as the thief is the one selected, it makes perfect sense.
roleplay a bunch of time and then when you know what will happen pretty much then powerplay to get diffrent story lines
roleplay untill it gets repetivie then powerplay
i'm great

Ancient times they had no statistics so they had to fall back on lies
"I'm invinceable"
"your a loony"
I'd rather be rich than stupid.
If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason.
