I don't think there are familiars in nwn

There will be familars in NwN.
Haven't seen any confirmed list though.

Looking at some of the screenshots it looked like characters were accompanied by huge animals. For example a tiger rather than a cat. I read something once about upgrading familiars, there was one type that made the familiar useful as a mage one that made it useful as a fighter. Does this exist in neverwinter nights, any ideas?

my posts are not meaningless and have at least a little to do with the post i said badgers becase i knew badgers were in the game then some one said the wolf's thing came up and i had to defend my self

(to make it revlent)

what happens if familers die is it like BG2 and you lose con points

Well... During testing, one of the badgers did kill a Balor...

If it gets the "master bonus" as according to what I've seen - a toad is a nice "powergamer" familiar.

Familiars level up as the owner level ups. When you get stronger, they get stronger...
