Marksmanship

Post by Trix »

I'm just wondering, am I missing something with Throwing Stars?
Steel ones cost 3 gold (c.f. 2 gold for a steel bolt) but only do 2-5 damage, whereas a similar bolt fired from a steel crossbow would do 20. That's an order of magnitude more!

The only advantage to using 'Stars that I can think of, is that there's no missile launcher to repair. But that hardly seems to justify the difference between thrown missiles and launched missiles?

Umm.

Yeah...I agree that throwing weapons don't seem as effective as they could be. I guess the only two 'advantages' I can think that they might have are that they can be fired-off faster and they can be enchanted...dubious 'advantages', to say the least :p

marksmanship is pretty useless in morrowind, cause...

unless you get official plugin, no one will sell you area effect bolts and arrows, thus why bother, except coolness??

yeah, coolness counts, but seriously, if you got this freaking draemora coming at you, and unless you have a ledge to sniper with and lots of ammo, you are better off dummoning help, or running away...

but oh my,

enchant several items, with target damage health or fire, or ice or shock, and you have got a rapid fire machine gun, with area effect, so if your aim is lousy, who cares???

and area effect projectiles only detonate if you hit your target...

urg...

so a couple of pieces of enchanted items with good charges and high enchant skill, WHICH YOU WILL SOON GET, USING THESE ITEMS IN COMBAT, you are so much better off without marksmanship skill its pityful....

try throwing a dart at a target, and then swithc over to enchanted machine gun shield....

heck a shield has enough enchatn points to be a auto cannon....60mm, rapid fire loaded with liquid nitrogen, electo chemical shock, or just plain napalm...

and the shield will fire roughly THREE times faster!!!!

try it, youll love it...

hence i posted the legend of the crimson battle suit....

1) Cast levitate.

2) Rise in the air.

3) Shoot down at stupid, melee-limited foes.

4) Repeat as necessary.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Marsmanship is not useless at all, consider a character who does not have a lot of hp, going up with an Orc warrior in a sword fight will most likely prove fatal, however with marksmanship you can get a few shots in before he get's close enough for close combat and then he'll be only at half health giving you a much needed advantage, furthermore arrows like any other weapon has a good chance of knocking an opponent down giving you plenty of time to finish him off, and plus what fable said is an excellent strategy as well

one other thing I forgot to mention is that arrow can also stop incoming spells if they hit eachother making it very usefull against spell casters.

Marksmanship rox !
A dremora lord goes down in 2 shots from my bound longbow, when im hidden ( Crit Damage )
Most of the normal npcs just die at the first shot.
And btw, have you ever seen an assassin in a fantasyworld who uses a magic "autofire" shield ?
I kill silent and not with big fireworks, leave that to them mages.
Thats just stupid :D
With each kill, I grow wiser, and with added wisdom, I grow stronger.

ok, i sorta take it back...

not much, mind you and ONLY cause jod pointed out you get crit damage with a ranged weapon...what i was saying is not so much marksmanship is useless,

but in comparison with enchant skill, set high so your new

"magic autofire shield"

costs very few mana points per shot, is so much better for what you would use ranged weapons skill for, sniping at levitate, and sniping at distance to soften up a nasty....

but if you throw a spell while hidden, do you get crit damage???

i think not...so there, marksmanship is ok for the hide and youre dead char...

sound fun.....

In regard to levitating and shooting down, if you can't paralyze them, they seem to run around like chickens with their heads cut off. Unless of course I'm doing it wrong.

It seems that if you don't levitate up to 2000 feet above the enemy, he will stand stock still straight below you and just look up at you while you pelter him with spells, arrows or whatever..

DEATH FROM ABOVE!!!!!!!!! Very few of my enemies started running around.. but i'm only lvl7 still so that might have something to say.
