SYM Factions
SYM Factions
After spending a little time in SYM, I have noted that there are a few Factions vying for power in the posts. Ordinarily, I avoid factions like the bubonic plague (unless I'm playing Planescape: Torment, in which case the Sensates are really the only way to go. ). I have, however, found myself in situations where I have inadvertently stepped into the line of fire.
To make matters worse, I like members from all of the factions. I fear that I'm eventually going to be forced to choose from amongst them, which is not something I wish to do.
Thus far, I have identified the following factions:
Mods I like them all, not because they wield so much power, but because they seem to do a really terrific job.
COMM - a mysterious faction that I know little to nothing about. I have noted that their leader, Weasel, hints at fermenting plots to seize control of everything. Is it so sinister, though? I really like some of the members of COMM alot, like Maharlika, who I've spent some posts reminiscing with.
SLURR - not so mysterious to me. My capacity for fun-loving is directly appealed to by the SLURRites. True, they can be a little wild, and they might do some things I wouldn't, but I can't help but like 'em anyway. Some of my favorite GB'ers are SLURRites.
Here is where I diverge from the realm of the obvious, into the dark alleys of conjecture. It's a perilous road to go down, to be sure.
The Females - I have noted an undercurrent flowing through some of the postal exchanges I have witnessed - particularly in that most entertaining thread, "Men are Like Bunnys" - that leads me to believe that some female GB'ers have actually formed a faction. It seems to me that they are mainly concerned with slicing and dicing the SLURRites, which they are apparently very good at, from what I've seen. They also seem to enjoy keeping slaves.
The Slaves - Well, these are the slaves of The Females. Some are aware of their condition, while others are not!!!
All that remains is this: will the members of the factions please step forward - with your best foot, if you please - and explain yourselves. Post your manifesto, if you wish. Why, you can even make a sales pitch, too, while you're at it.

Not everyone is part of a faction, and most people don't really care... but COMM will probably pressure you to join them COMM is a scam that Weasel started, which pretends to be different from spam, but actually isn't. They like to pick fights with spammers, and especially Dark Flames (see below)
The Dark Flames are a group, not only but predominantly female, that began in the BG2 forum discussing the Anomen romance, moved to SYM, and has been here ever since (writing an extremely long story!) The SLURRs like to flirt with the female members... as do most male SYMmers, actually
The SLURRs would recruit you, but they got high...

Who, me?!?
It would be against the Holy COMM Book to pressure people to join..Originally posted by Georgi

Neverespecially Dark Flames

@Georgi:
That'll definitely generate a response by Ode, if he reads this.
Of course, but it makes for interesting conversation, just the same.
And yes, I've been solicited once already to bow down to COMM...by one who is supposedly no longer a member, btw.
Ok, the dark alley wasn't dark at all, then. The water behind my ears is showing...
@Weasel:
Hmmm. The Moors of antiquity, with their scimitars flashing as they conquered the Iberian peninsula (Spain), probably didn't think they were pressuring anyone into becoming a believer, either. Hey, they were just doing their duty.
LOL!The SLURRs would recruit you, but they got high...

BTW, a good rule of thumb is Never trust a Weasel.
The DFs did used to keep male slaves, BTW, but we stopped that a while back Now they are more like willing servants...
Who, me?!?
Sherlock Chanak
@Georgi:
And who might the "we" be? Non-aligned GB members? Or, could the "we" possibly refer to the Dark Flames?
Very interesting, indeed.

The worst thing about spam...
@Georgi:
The worst thing about spam - besides it's rather pasty manufactured texture and vague trace of flavoring - is the disgustingly green jelly-like substance it's entombed in.
Yeecchhhh. Ewww.

Re: The Best Faction.....COMM
@Chanak But our particular brand of spam is far more tasty than the tinned variety
Brink only recently gave up his seat on the fence and became a SLURR... he hasn't quite got the hang of it yet, as you can see

@Georgi-Hmm...I gave up my seat on the fence mostly because *someone* destroyed my old lab, and Eerhardt's a great brewer(which also means that they've got one heck of a state-of-the-art lab somewhere within the Rolling Thunder(tm)

And then there are those of use who lurk quietly in the shadows chuckling to ourselves as we watch the various factions vying for control, occaisionally popping up to make our contributions to the chaos that is SYM
There are 10 types of people in the world - those who understand binary and those who don't.
I think I think, therefore I might be.

Since I've decided to move back into my cave (the whole "SYM Heartbreak Hotel" thread has thoroughly depressed me), I'm not up to hanging out around bright lights and other people. Thanks for the offer, but I must decline.
