WTF is a stalker good for?

Post by Merkidon »

I just grabbed Valygar (level 9) to get in the planar sphere, what exactly is this guy good for?

He can't backstab like the manual says, he has NO mage spells, the book is greyed out, no priest spells yet..he's just a crappy ranger!!

Stalkers are more skilled at...stalking  , which means they make excellent scouts. They DO get a backstab multiplier, though it's not as high as a thief (I think it's one less than a thief e equal level, but I'm not sure). They also don't get any real wizard spells: the spells are accessed through the clerical spell menu, but don't show up until level 12 (?).

All in all, a Stalker is not really a tank (but you can turn him into one with the right equipment), but takes care of searching for enemy locations.
IMO, Stalkers aren't crappy at all (I play one :D )

Valygar's Corthala Family Blade is bugged... You can't backstab with it! Give him any other katana, and he'll backstab just fine. :)

...if you do it right, of course. :D

I'm currently playing with a stalker and I'm having much, much more fun with him than I imagined. I guess it's because he's so versatile. You can use him to sneak, tank and cast (some) spells.
I never cared for Valygar though... as a character he's a bit of a bore AND... he doesn't like Viconia. Go figger!

I too played a stalker, extradanarily useful fellow!
Backstab, sneak skills, fights quite well, and in the early sections its easier to find good leather armour than good plate

Valygar is pretty good to have around, his armour is excellent, and once you get him some good katanas, hes great. Or, you can outfit him with spear and longbow which works well.

I think he does absolutely great with the Celestial Fury. A real nasty weapon and he can backstab with it for major damage. I also give him boots of speed, gauntlets of ogre power and he does great. He does get beat up due to poor armor class but he can dish it out as well. I keep a cleric back for healing him. :D

Knight Errant:

A good suit of Leather Armour in the earlier sections of the game?

I'd say The Night's Gift +5, or the Shadow Dragon Scale.
