WindowsXP Blues

Post by Tark Volmar »

To anyone who can help!! I just installed WindowsXP Home Edition a couple of days ago.I did all the configuration stuff and still my game will not run right. It runs REALLY SLOW. You can't even play. I tried seaching for patch's for this problem but found nothing. My game ran fine with Windows Me. Very frustrated. Are there any computer Wizards out there who can help me?
Would greatly apreciate it.
Thanks Tark Volmar

During BG configuration, disable 3D acceleration. Also, right-click on the BG icon, select the compatibility modus, and select Windows 98. This should solve your problem.

Running it in compatibility mode is what usually causes the slow-down, rather than being a solution.

There is no need to run BG2 in compatibility mode, and I would advise that you don't.

"X is busy"-error with XP

I know what you mean. I recently bought a new pc with Windows XP and was looking forward to playing BG II full graphs and full sound, when I got stuck because of the "X is busy"-error you get when playing the game in Windows XP. I installed the patch from Bioware and it solved the problem, but then the load times were very slow. I found that running Baldur's Gate II in 640x480 resolution and Win95 compatibility mode solved the slow load time/framerate issue. I still have to try Quitch's suggestion not to run the game in compatibility mode at all, though.

standard solve procedure

Also, I've noticed that - when having trouble running BG II - some advice keeps returning:
- clean out the cache
- clean out the temp folder
- clean out the tempsave folder
- turn off and restart your computer (cleaning out the RAM)

One more little XP note, if you have two users logged on at the same time, it can eat up memory, and cause your computer to run sluggish.

My brother used to just not log off, then when I logged on, my system would run slow.

If you want 3D accelleration, just update your drivers for your graphics card. Solves the problem.

Well I have a GeForce 2MX, latest NVidia drivers, and I can't use 3D acceleration.
