Gn, Bloodstalker. I should probably hit soon myself. Best of luck on your quest. :)

I don't actually know much about my ancestry at all. Although apparently I am distantly related to Charlton Heston... but I try to keep that quiet. ;)
Speaking of Ancestry, I got an interesting line. I've traced my family name back to Charles Martel (Charlemange). On top of that, my distant ancestor was a man named Degrute. Can't remember if he was Little Big Horn, or Civil War. I got another in there somewhere, an American Col.

Maybe we should start a SYM ancestry thread.

I know I'm a member of Clan Graham (clan motto: Ne oublie) and IIRC a descendant of the clan's chieftan, which is somewhat ironic since my RL name happens to be Graham. I've got an instance of royal ancestry somewhere along the line, and I'm also a distant descendent of a French nobleman, who was apparently insane (figures  ). Apparently Heath Ledger (the actor) is also a very distant relative of mine.

That's about all I can remember off the top of my head, if we start a thread on ancestry I'll look it up in more detail.

@Georgi-Charlton Heston, poor you! :(

Heh, could you introduce me? :D ;)
And since you're an Aussie, you must have at least one neinous criminal in your ancestry... :D :p

Technically speaking I'm a criminal, as cannabis is illegal over here. Chances are I do have criminal relatives (some of them probably still alive ;) ), but I can't recall any of the top of my head.

My maternal great grandma was one of the first civilians to land with the first of the settlers, and my paternal grandfather came from Britain a while back.

This brings up an interesting point:

Please note that the following statement is by no means a jugdement. I am only interested in the ramifications of this question from an intelectual point of view.

Since cannabis is illegal in places where a majority of the SYM posters hail from, discussion of said substance is a violation of Forum Rule no. 2, Right?
That there; exactly the kinda diversion we coulda used.

Actually, cannabis is only illegal to buy and sell, grow and possess. It isn't exactly illegal to use it (smoke, eat). That said, whenever I speak of cannabis around here, I only used it. It was someone else's. I didn't buy it, grow it, and it certainly isn't my possession, so thus, I am not in violation of rule 2.

Seeing as how nobody has dropped off any alcohol here in a while

**drops off alcohol, you decide what it is (don't choose rubbing)**
Indeed. Who decides what spelling is correct? Language is a symbol system, and along as the written form conveys the intended meaning, what does it matter what symbols are used? If I chose to lock you in the boot of your auto because I don’t like the colour of your jumper, or perhaps you smelt badly when we were in the lift together, or you tried to run me over with your lorry; well do me a favour and deal with it, eh mate? :D

Speaking of language difficulties – can anyone figure out what Ysh is talking about in the story? (a few posts back) She said:
“swiping with it's plus fours”
“these were a lost and forgotten beast”
“pulled a threatening hip flask from her pack”

What language is this?

@Ned: Thanks for the Yukon Jack! ;)

Is this distinction true in the UK, Canada, or Australia as well?

Hey guys. I know I don't come in here a lot **examines the unshredded draperies** but I figure that I'd drop in for a short while to say hi.

Hi!

That being said, somebody throw me a drink!

Well how many trolls have you seen rolling barrels? - and no derogatory comments about the bar wenches of SYM! :D

I know how you Brits like to use numbers inappropriately - e.g. 'sixes and nines'... I thought 'plus fours' was another of those strange expressions.
'These' and 'a beast' do not agree in number if you parse it out...
hip flasks are never threatening - just ask Ned.

Glad to hear you don't drink the girly stuff! :D

LMAO! :D great Glaswegian accent there! :D

@Gwally - should I have said 'these were a forgotten beasts'? Now that does not make sense either :D 'these' indicated a plural reference to a singular 'beast' ;)

@Ned LOL! :D *snatches back bottle and scowls*
