Another dumb thief question

Post by Ollamnh »

Thanks for the help on the last one, now...

I have played a thief years ago in pen&paper D&D, but not on a PC. Mostly I've run heavy hitters or clerics. Can any one provide a simple explanation of how to backstab? Every time I try it with an NPC (basically Imoen, Nalia or Yoshimo) there only seems to be about a 10% chance that I get it right, thus there appears to be a 100% chance that I'm not doing it right.

You need to move up behind the target either invisibly or stealthed. The attack you make then will be a Backstab, but only if you attack from behind, and are unnoticed.

Also, some creatures are immune to backstab -Barbarians, Dragons, Golems and the like.

Hope this helps. :)

Stealth is a Ranger Abilitie.
Thiefs have Hide in Shadows, if u want to Hide in Shadows u must hit the Hide in Shadows Button (it is the half black/half Bleu face) then u hide in shadows (if your hide stats are high enough)
with Rangers it is just the same, they too have that button only there abilitie is called stealth and they get some points of stealth every lvl and thief u can put some points in Hide in Shadow.
thats the whole difference.

you can backstab bone golems just fine.
also i'm look'n for more ways to utilize backstab, with pure and multi/dual thiefs. When i found out how uber powerful mislead was with my mage/theif multi i nearly wet myself. Oh yeah, and a simulacrum helm plus a buncha stolen potions of invis = hella evil.

gear suggestions that won't disable theif or mage abilities would be nice also, low high and uber level with TOB installed. Celestial Fury is a nice weapon, wonder'n if there were better out there for backstab'n.

and i have a question, what good is that theif ability to detect illusions? does it work like true sight and allow you to see invis stuff? or is it just to find secret doors and other useless crap from the scenery?
