Sola mod + Nalia's Keep (Spoiler?)

Post by Alvin »

I'm playin through BGII for the 3rd time and to spice things up I installed the Sola mod. I'm playin a multiplayergame with 3 characters, a Berserker (lvl 12), a Illusionist (lvl 12) and Fighter (lvl 7) dualled to a Thief (lvl 14).

I went to Nalia's Keep at lvl 10 and got stuck at Torgal and his gang (a few Umber Hulks Elders and about 20 Trolls Spirit/Blizzard + Yan Tui Mages)

After 10 hours or more tryin, I gave up and decided to gain more exp and then return. So I went and did Trademeet, the Mae'Vars quests and some others and returned (See my current stats above).
And now I'm about to give up again, I've tried everything but I still don't stand a chance. I've even tried lowering Diff level to *Easy* but still I get spanked. Sometimes when I have only a few Spirit Trolls left, they will be stuck @ *Near Death* and will not go down :(

Has anyone who has the Sola mod been trough this?
Could you possibly give me some hints and tricks pls ?
I love the challange, but this is ridicoulus as it is :(

That one was tough...
Usually too, the keep is one of the first quests!
I admit, I found it insanely difficult at the level I was,
so I resigned to use the "cheese" I HATE the most:
an additional rest to choose the right spells, and pre-buffing!
:(
Of course this wasn't enough, in the end I had to lure them
out in small groups too....
I don't like playing this way, but one of the few flaws
of the mod is that difficulty doesn't seem to scale...
How can you ever survive such an insane battle, with
FOUR, LOW LEVEL party members??!?!
So my suggestion is, don't lose all the good things the Sola Mod
provides, just accept to use some nasty tactics and cheese
in some of its additional encounters, like this one,
the Improved Bodhi (oh man!!! Try rescuing Immie ASAP, and face
the new Bodhi too early!!! ARGH!!), the Eclipse Party I've yet
to try, and so on.
While the Smart Beholders, for instance, simply have a better
AI, so you have to play nice, some of new enemies use a large
amount of cheese themselves, so, just try to make things even
again! :)
Though I consider absolutely good the new Mind Flyers: yes, they
have many additional powers, but SO they SHOULD!!!!!
In PnP they're fearsome!

I actually found a pretty nice strategy... Highlight if you want to read about it:
Cast several webs at the group... most of them will be held, and let the fighters kill whomever escapes. Meanwhile, have your Mages cast the spell 'Summon Spider'. The spiders are immune to web, and will kill them easily. They can kill trolls, too, due to their poison attack ;) .
I cannot be caged.
I cannot be controlled.
(I probably cannot be contained either) :p ;)

Understand this as you die,
ever pathetic, ever fools.

@ Alvin;

Everything gets harder with the Sola mod -- Nalia's keep used to be one of my first quests (get an uber weapon very early in the game) but no more :(

Same with twisted rune, dragons etc. All the improved stuff I now leave till after the Underdark except maybe Kangaxx, who I can just about manage. I think the intention was to make it harder for people to collect all the super weapons in chapter 2.
