-4 to Thac0 somewhere during the game...?

Has anyone noticed somewhere, sometime during SoA that their main character picks up 4 free points on Thac0? I dunno if you would on a non-fighter but I was just playing around with a saved game and some importing.

Old saved game (somewhere in Hell):
Base Thac0: 8
Celestial Fury: -3
3 slots Proficiency: -2
Frost Giant Strength Bonus: -4
Net Thac0: -5???

New game (somewhere in Athkatla):
Base Thac0: 8
Celestial Fury: -3
3 slots Proficiency: -2
Frost Giant Strength Bonus: -4
Net Thac0: -1

From what it looks like, the new game stats should be the correct ones, but still, those old saved game numbers are staring at me right inthe face.

*Note: The old saved game numbers were taken prior to doing the Test of Wrath in Hell, the one where you may receive the strength bonus from.

I'm thinking maybe after you receive the Slayer transformation, you receive that undisclosed bonus. And YOU are thinking, how did you get Frost Giant Strength before the Slayer Trans? Well, I imported the belt with Shadowkeeper for the sake of this experiment.

Were you invisible/hidden? That gets you -4 THAC0.

A thought just occured to me that maybe this mysterious bonus was a bug in SoA, since that's wheen the Old Save Game was created, and is fixed by an installation of ToB, hense the reason why I'm not seeing this bonus in the new save. So I went back and reloaded an even older saved game from the same string as the one that had the -4 extra extra thac0 bonus. Lo and behold, it did not have the -4. That can only mean that sometime, somewhere during the game, you are given the -4. Now...to find out where and when exactly that occurs.

Well...it appears that I've found the culprit and it's not a bug to have the -4, it's a bug that now I don't have it.

The -4 came from being a level 12/15 kensai mage. Since Kensai's get -1 to their Thac0 ever 3 levels as one of their bonuses. But somehow importing screws up this bonus, as I'm sure it did to my Kai ability I was talking about in my other thread. A most disturbing bug indeed.

You can select akit over and over so you get lots of hit points

Do not remember exact levels, but my high level ranger-to-cleric got THAC0 even -10 or so - with aid of all spells, of course. (my favorite Fail of Ages+3). It's temporary, of course, but my fights almost always are very short and quick, so it's enough.

WEll, it turns out that this bug is fixed by the latest ToB Patch 26498, too bad it isn't retroactive, which means I just wasted about 2 days of my life. Here's to many many many more.
