Sword? one or two, or axe or mace...what is your fav weapon type???
just curious, i prefer with shield two handed swords...umbra is getting to be my fav...(shield is my regen health constatn effect item....even with two handed weapons, if you equipp shield first and then equip two handed you can have shield regen health...)
really should switch to axe or spear, as i am at 100 with long blade, but i like two handed swords too much!!!!

I've been using a dwarven claymore that I found while looking for the puzzle box. I'm only level 4 so that's quite a good weapon for me. One thing I noticed though is that a 1-h weapon and shield seems to be far better when going up against multiple foes. With my claymore I keep getting staggered before I can do a full swing, so I don't get many hits in. With a regular steel katana I hit for a lot less damage but I get far more strikes. I was pretty amazed at how much better it is. Short Swords are even better because they are fast with good minimum damage.
I tried out war hammers and I think they are very cool looking. I like how they knock stuff down more too - they must get a bonus to knockdown because they don't do much more damage than a 2h sword but they knockdown much more often. If I wasn't playing a swordswinger character I would definately go for war hammers.
Still, I prefer 2h swords for the look, although I think the blade of the Dai Katana is stupidly long.

i completely agree short of keening it is best short blade in game...looked for it in tes, but could not find item code...
and where is dagoth dagger??
i so love two handed swords, umbra is my fav, tho i am at 100 long blade...
my daedric long bow is very fun....you have to estimate and correct for trajectory, so is quite fun....
area effect arrows suck, tho....
kinda annoying, and i got some nice glass arrows, so they are going to be fun once i use up my area effect...

Don't know the item code for the BHD, but I recall noticing it once. It's a bit odd..... something like dagger_mtas. Look for that and you should find it.
Dagoth Dagger is found in Telvanni canton in Vivec. Go into the canalworks and look for 'Telvanni Monster Lab'. It's an odd area that I don't see much purpose for, it really doesn't 'fit' well. Anyway, you'll have to kill a bunch of dwemer robots, but the dagoth dagger is at the end.

thanks!!!!
what is in your opinion the best long blade in game???
i am thinking daedric dai katana...unenchanted!!!
sure you can add your spells later, but the long blades you get from quests really suck...
daedric dai katana does up to 70 damage per hit, and thats better than any enchanted game supplied weapon, possibly gold brand is better, but how amny charges per hit do you get???
unless your enchatn is very high, you are almost better off unenchanting daedric long blades...though you can always use the weapon once its out of charges...

Honestly, my idea of the best long blade in the game is an unenchanted daedric katana. Slap paralyze for two seconds on there, plus another enchant of your choice (drain/absorb fatigue/health, direct damage, calm humanoid, etc). After all, direct weapon damage doesn't mean all that much. If for no other reason then if you kill something in one swing, that's only once your weapon skill will go up. If it takes you 25 swings, that's 25 times your weapon skill will advance. The paralyze insures you can attack with little fear of getting hit, so there's no hurry.
The best in-game magic sword is goldbrand. One handed, high base damage, some halfway worthwhile enchantments.
Even with low enchantment, you should always get some kind of enchantment put on your weapons. For one, so you can hit undead/daedric monsters. But for another thing, they recharge quickly all things considered. Even if they don't always have a charge, they'll have one often enough to be worthwhile.

Problem with spears, Crosswind, is that there aren't really any good ones in-game (Sheogorath's is decent, about the best to be found) and they have lousy enchanting potential for a two-handed weapon (15 on the daedric, 10 on the ebony).
For a character using light armor or unarmored, though, spears are definitely the only way to go if you want to build endurance.

so cross, when you use spear, do you have game option use best attack turned on????
its ok, if you are a long blade or axe person like me, (almost exclusivley using bound battle axe now, to boost conjure and axe skills), since most meelee i stand toe to toe and chop them down to death, but unless you are constantly charging, you cannot get get hits with spears unless you have option turned on...and a chop with a spear is really bad,....

Actually, being the leaping lizard I am, I usually hit them as I am sailing over them, 2 or three times before I land on the other side. As I am sailing forward, I am always stabbing.
As for weapon damage...do you REALLY NEED a better weapon? I 1 hit kill everything with the Spear of Bitter Mercy. Actually, the named ascended sleepers take 2. =/ And Dagoth Ur took 3. =/
I will say that long swords are technically the most powerful weapon (except for 1 handed maces, because you can't touch sunder for damage, bonuses, or ANYTHING). But everybody and their mother uses them, so I feel obliged not to.

I don't think ranged weapons are getting enough credit here either...
I've played 2 characters with marksmanship as their backup, the point for both at which I said "I can now take anything in this game" was when I got a daedric longbow. With marksmanship, you can drop almost anything before it gets to you. Cliff racers aren't even a threat (yay...). And with levitation or jump and good acrobatics, you're golden...daedric ruins are full of places where you can hop up.
