game just closes

can't figure out what the deal is.
When I installed it, several files were bad/different.. so I just clicked ignore, not sure if this relates to the problem:

When I get to certain spots on maps (always the same spots) the game simply closes.

I tried to install the minimum, but it has to read the cd every 2 seconds, so thats annoying.
I have patched to 1.4, so if anyone has some suggestions (besides reinstall, I tried that, same problems with the files, same game closing), I would appreciate it.

I believe patch v1.1 also known as installer patch was supppose to fix some installation problems, but only if the game was to be installed in a drive other than C: . Is this the case for you ?

Download the 1.4 patch too.
This seems to be a make-it-up-as-you-go game.
(Most games don't require so many post release fixes.)
There may have been some rush to get it released that made the developers forego testing before commercial production.

Anyway once you do get it running, it's pretty fun. (Though I find the interface a tad frustrating....)

well

I did download the patch, and the installer, etc.
Still closes. Even when I am running the minimum installation, it cant load all the files. Of course I dont have a super fast cdrom, so its annoying.
I love the game, but the bugs piss me off some.

I'll try it a few more times, never know

Have you checked the cd, maybe it is damaged which prevents the cd-rom from reading all the files when installing.

I've just struck a similar problem - it closes whenever I get to the room that contains the Draedsweord Daemoniac. Closes very occasionally elsewhere but restarts and continues ok - but this area seems to be a no-go zone for me .... Grrrrr
I have also loaded it into another PC and it does the same.

Anyone got any suggestions, hints etc ?????
(System = Dual PIII 1Gb, 512Mb Ram, 32Mb Video)

Where is that room? (What level I mean)

My game still closes at random too. Did you download the patches?
Have you gone to other areas and returned?
Some encounters seem to really work my processor. (Actually I think it's the display - too much going on.)

By the way I've come accross a few more rooms where I don't have a key, and I've gone to every likely spot. Have more bugs like the ancient rusted key been noticed?

I've also had random crashes with the game. One time a crash was sure when i got near to a specific area. What i did and suggest if an area is constantly crashes is unistall/reinstall the game and apply the latest patch. It worked for me.

IIRC it's at the Prisons Level of the Drow Catacombs
