I am in work now so will try and find a link later, but this story was also reorted over here. IIRC he did not die but was taken to hospital...I hope he is ok. I have heard the Koreans are fanatical about football, but this is going a little too far...

Well, indeed, referees are taken from all the world, even from
nations where football hardly exists....
IMHO they should come up with some technological system to help
them in events of such importance, without slowing the game
too much.

About the national themes.. well, I HATE OURS!!!!
Hard to admit but... We've got a history of musicians...
Verdi would be enough to find a theme...
And we've got a MARCH!!!! A stupid march!!!!!
I'd want something more serious.......

and oh, fanatics, they're everywhere, not only in football..

Time to prepare for our match!!! :D
I'm crossing my fingers....

I think the only way to solve the bad refs is to have a video ref to help out.

The national anthem is a good question one, The australian one is 'advance australia fair'.
It is so bad no-one knows the words (or wants to). IT is all out of tune.

What gets me is the south american ones (sorry guys but it seems to go

bom-ti-bom-ti--bom bom and repeat flatly 200 times )

with such a great musical heritage your national anthems are ....i dont get it?

someone said they liked the swedens ? please explain

I have to agree, the Australian national anthem is not only awful, it's also misleading. If I could remember the words I'd post them, but they're truly terrible and I've forgotten them in self-defence of my sanity.
I think they should change the national anthem to something more catchy, like "I come from a land down-under" or Rolf Harris's "Tie me kangaroo down Sport". :D Can't wait 'til Tammy sees this, as almost no-one else will know "Tie me kangaroo down Sport"

Harris is awful, isn't he? :D What do you think then Sleepo, "Tie me kangaroo down Sport" for the new Australian national anthem?

I think it could work, maybe get the BeeGees involved as well, make it a trans atlantic affair. Any other possible cheesy choices? :)

No, it has to be a terrible Australian music artist (like there's any other kind) .
We could use Kylie Minogue or Holly Valance at a pinch, but they've chosen to live in England so it wouldn't really count... :D

Italy vs. KoreaNooo, Italy lost, 2-1. It went into overtime, around 115th minute the Korean who missed the penalty earlier got the goal with a header. I cant believe that Italy is out. What's up with all these upsets. France, Argentina, Portugal, now Italy. So much for the rematch between the two greatest teams, Italy and Brazil. I only saw a bit of the game, since I came back early after exams. Looked like a good game.

Turkey vs. Japan: Turkey somehow managed to win this 1-0. I didn't see this one, but they got the most yellow cards in world cup history!

Italy X Korea

2-1 for Korea.
Good Game. Also violent.
In the first prorrogation the Italy Golden Gol nulyfied was, in fact, legal; for 20 centimeters of legal position. Arbiter mistake. And was not the only error.

But Korea play well. The Coliseum was completely red.

Now Korea X Spain.
[Sorry about my English]

Go Korea!
I feel sorry for Italy, Italian papers are not going to be happy with the referees in this WC. However I think the Italians have themselves to blame...they should not have lost this match, poor substitutions really, too defensive.
What about Vieris chance in the 90th minute!!!
Or that cool freekick southkorea had in extra time.
Great match really...a pity though that all the stars are going out...
ah well
Come on Sven och Tord!
Go England!

Go Korea!!

Ow yeah!
Dutchman Guust Hiddink is their new hero! (So, we are still at the WK :D ;) )

They deserved it IMO.
Another "big" one is out. I would ROTFLMAO if Korea made it till the final... and perhaps even win it.

I know nothing about this particular incidence, but according to a friend of mine who has studied history of religions at uni, Korea has an extremely large amount of small cults, most with much magic ideas. Extreme religious behaviour is of course coloured by images that exists in one's culture.

Re national anthems, I think the Swedish one is OK, but I don't like it either. The best national anthem is IMO the Russian one. It's it the same melody as the former Soviet union had, they changed it after the fall of the Soviet Union, but then changed it back to the old one with new lyrics. It's a beautiful tune, you can hear it's written by a real classical composer.

I must agree I don't like the Italian one, and like you say, it's a strange choice considering you have such a long history of excellent composers...Something by Puccini would have been wonderful.

I'm sorry Italy is out :( I was amazed when I heard it, I never believed they would go out to Korea :( I haven't seen the match, I will watch it later this evening. Congrats to Korea though - the home crowd must be insanely happy now! :)

Quoting myself.
Anyway, this World Cup is DEVASTATED by the mistakes of the referees.

Of course I was wrong.
The right word is PILOTATED.

Mind you, Korea played well. Very well.
And we've seen other defeats in the pasts. No problem.
But NO ONE here in Italy will ever forget
what has been done to us, in this so called "world cup"
