Shurikens, Cursed Daggers, Negative Enchantments, and other Interesting Things

Post by Ryo »

Earlier today, I got bored and replaced by AIM buddy icon, which had previously been a miniature giant space hamster, with an animated gif of a leet ninja assassin of death. So my friend and I got to talking about how cool it would be if shurikens existed in BG2. We figured something like 1d4 damage with weight 0, speed factor 1, and three attacks per round would be pretty cool. Fighters, Rangers, Paladins, Thieves, and Monks could use them.

So we talked about what kind of enchanted shurikens the PC and his merry crew might run across, like a +3 shuriken version of the Dagger of Venom, or one that carries additional cold and electrical damage. Then I came up with the idea of a cursed shuriken that basically has all the characteristics of a normal +1 shuriken, except all bonuses are negative. So it would wind up looking something like...

Shuriken -1: "Assassin's Bane"
Abilities: Returns to hand when thrown, can only be removed with a "Remove Curse" spell.
Thac0: -1
Damage: 1d4-1
Weight: 0
Speed Factor: 2

We talked about this for a while until I designed the following, inspired by the cursed items of Diablo:

Dagger -5: "Extremely Rusty Less Than Worthless Dagger Of No Small Amount of Trouble"
Abilities: Cannot be removed, period. Should have identified it first, idiot.
Thac0: -5
Damage: 1d4-5
Weight: 7
Speed Factor: 8

Since 1d4-5 will always wind up doing negative damage, I figure it would probably end up healing the opponent. Anyway, then he had to go. I guess there isn't much of a further point to this topic, I just thought the idea of negative enchantment items would be somewhat of a refreshing change. Cursed items are cool. ^_^

Thoughts?

How about Boots of Athelete's Foot.

You would have to cast "cure Disease" or either Go to a Doctor( I don't recall seeing any in BG2)

Oh, cute. :) Reminds me of a magical necklace I made and sold as a merchant in DragonRealms several years ago, that cast the Confusion spell--on the caster. :D
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

For those of you familiar with PnP DnD (my, but isn't that cryptic?), the Necklace of Strangulation might be fun. Essentially, you put it on, and it stranglificates you. Only removable with Remove Curse, or after the body is a dried husk. Pleasant.

..I think the best kind of cursed item is the one that doesnt tell you its cursed.. even after identified

Like a powerfull sword that has a % chance to cast heal on the enemy, and only after you have discovered the annoying side effect and try to unequip it.. do you realise you should have memorized a removce curse spell
-->Instert cool sig here<--

hmm i like the idea of a throwing dagger but how about making it a little bit more extreme? what if the dagger just simply badly damaged the character? i mean imagine a very strong throwing dagger that returns to the hand, but if used under a certain strength the dagger cannot be handled properly and depending on the strenght it makes a hit on the member who uses it: for example, even though you dont know bout it, but u need 16 strength to handle it without any dangers... with 15 strength it does 25 damage with a 2% hit chance, 14 strength same damage but with a 3%, 13 strength 5% hit chance and 35 damage....... or just anything like that....... i think the idea of a at first glance great weapon but by better looking at it a rather dangerous weapon is quite exciting..... maybe even with a battle dialogue.... like this weapon is out of control......

hehe........ just a thought would be kinda exciting.....

Spoilerish:

or a very powerful sword of some kind that can break and maybe only be repaired by cromwell or something.... imagine what you would do if your paladin had just broken his carsomyr replica sword fighting the shadow dragon....... hehe :D :p
