saved games

Post by eviljr »

I need to rebuild my hard drive image. It has become very unstable. I would like to reformat and start over, but I am afraid of what will become of my saved games. I do not know the best way to back these up. I'm afraid that I may miss something and corrupt my saves. Has anyone transferred saves from one machine to another, or backed them up to cd and restored them later. If so, I would greatly appreciate know what steps you took to do it. Thank you.

Your saved game directory is full of ordinary computer files. Each saved game is in its own separate folder. You can copy them from one computer to another, save them to CDs or floppy disks, or do whatever you want to with them. The only issue that might arise if you try to open a game on a different computer (or on the same computer after re-installing the game) is whether you need to add patches or MODs to the second installation to ensure compatibility.

Thx. That was what I had concluded, but I wanted to post the question to a knowledgable source before trying it. I didn't want to post my theory and have some lamebrain come along and just agree with me because it sounded good. I appreciate the help.

I have successfully copied my save games to zip, reformatted my hard drive, and copied the games back over to a newly installed SoA :)
