Improved Twisted Rune from SolaMod

Post by Littiz »

I've tested it, at last (I've not so much time to play.. )
Very good!
As for the Improved Guarded Compound!
They're smart and use the nasty tactics that players can do!!
The mage holdin' the SotM was USING it at last!!
Of course, it's a real challenge now!

It's good to hear.
The Sola really improves the game!

On what level do you recommend to do the Improved Guarded Compound?
I think i'll save the Improved Twisted Rune for after the Underdark...

PS, Littiz...
ROFLMAO! (after reading your new sig :p ) ....

I used to manage the twisted rune in ch 2...now I wait till I can cast plenty of project images/ wizard eye/ delayed blast fireballs etc (© userunfriendly) as that fight can be very nasty. I'd leave improved guarded compound till the same sort of level, although I can't remember the specifics, it was as tough as hell!

Once again, many thanks to Wes and the other authors for a great set of mods. :)

About time. :D That really annoyed me. If you have a true treasure like that in your inventory, it stands to reason you'll use it on anybody who shows up uninvited!

Not only that - everyone who fought the Twisted Rune atleast once would know that the Mage isn't Protected form Evil like the staff supposed to give her - and thus, she get killed by her OWN pit fiend  ...

i did imp rune once so far, me as archer with ano, and rescuing immie very early. after we came back from underdark and already got a few HLAs i tried.
the incoming skull traps, well, whats that about? either a char dies and reload, or u react clever and go in with protection from magical energy or cloak of mirroring.
Ano summoned a deva and 4 skellies, immie in the south part of the first room and project image. the image, me and ano go to the main room, activate shangalar and go to lower right, imp haste on Ano and me iirc. shangalar or the mage casts abu dalzim, immie dies. bleh, no magic today.
somehow, the deva with the skellies manage to take out shangalar rather quickly (no idea how), and while i did the beholder, fighter and some rune assassins they also killed the vamp (and the last assassin i think). maybe its some special deva attack thats incredibly useful vs undead, dunno. i didnt even see them while they were fighting.
shyressa (i think?) was annoying, had protection from magical weapons, so Ano and the deva/skellies couldnt do anything, but as an archer, there r normal arrows after all. took some time, but i didnt take much damage as she focused on the summons, and she went down. SotM was annoying, she always cloaked, i hardly had the time to hit her in between. even true sight doesnt help, as it is only once per round.
the altered spawning points r a good idea, imo.

Fighting someone with the SotM is sooo annoying...I fell sorry for all the various monsters and whatnot I've harrassed, gassed , electrocuted and skull trapped using it over the last 18 months using it.

The two times I've done it, Layene was the last twisted baddie left -- when she runs out of spells she just stands there, very invisible. Had to cloudkill her in the end (Least she doesn't teleport away or grab the eyestalk herself and leave me stuck in there.)

Agreed: the SotM is very overpowered, IMO, for SoA. It's a god weapon that never belonged in the game.

hmm, but if you obtain it in a hard fight, where it's used
against you, it's fine.
I've beaten that mage after all.
Of course, when one was able to get it in early SoA, it
was overpowered.
Also in my games, I give to Imoen, so I don't use to full
extent its dispelling powers and melee "constant" invisibility.
Yet, in the hands of a fighter/mage, it becomes an almost
unbalancing weapon....

@Alson: now I'd go with level 16 or something like that.
You can always try with less, but I assure you that now
mages are nasty, with all those chained Abi Dalzim!!!
oh, what does ROFLMAO mean????
