Shadows Over Soubar

Post by fable »

Has anyone tried this expansion pack? I see it described as being for ToB, but it's set in Trademeet, and described as being during the time you solve the problem of evil druids--which certainly sounds like SoA.

I haven't tried it, but it sounds interesting. Do you know any more about it, where it can be obtained and such?

I guess when they say "it's for Throne of Bhaal", they mean you have to have ToB installed to play it. Arguably, a game of Shadows of Amn with ToB installed is different from the original game, no? New items, new spells, high level abilities, new sounds, a higher XP cap, etc. I just thought I'd mention that.

Back on topic, I'm not familiar with that expansion pack. If you find out more about it, let us know what you think of it. Your comments should be very interesting.

All I have at this time is a download link to the file:

http://www.fileplanet.com/index.asp?file=89345

...and a homepage: http://www.teambg.net/soubar/ It sounds really interesting and fairly ambitious, but I have no idea how well it was programmed or balanced.

The real question is, is it compatible with other mods?
Otherwise, it would be useless (for me at least..) ;)

According to a TeamBG moderator, asking questions about the compatibility of SoS is "stupid" because of its size. I don't agree, but I also can't be really specific yet because few people have really played it deeply thus far.

It isn't a WeiDU install, so the drill would be to install it before anything WeiDU-based and then kinda cross your fingers. Given that some WeiDU stuff (like Kelsey and I believe Tashia if you copy across a single file that's unique to TOB) works more or less well with TDD, I'd say the odds are decent, but so far nobody's reported anything one way or the other.

It's apparently known not compatible with TDD (given) and at least one other TeamBG mod (Freedom's Reign).

The people over at TeamBG are very reliable, and because of their past works, I would assume that's it's compatible. I also would like to know "what it's like", coming from the eyes of a peer of course, eg. is it like TDD or Ascension, etc.

Well, as far as I can tell there are some issues that need to be resolved. The Trademeet Druid's quest seems bugged (getting busy dialogue from Lord Logan), which really pisses me off since you can't begin Soubar without 1st starting this quest. There also seems to be a prob with meeting Bodhi in the Graveyard if you plan on siding with her. She doesn't seem to show up... As for now I'm going to uninstall it and check back later on bug fixes.

As for compatibility Tashia, and Valen's dialogue seems to be screwed up (sometimes say the same thing 2x or 3x over). Couldn't really find out much since I unistalled it in Ch. 2 and didn't do much exploring. Oh, and it's probably going to be something similar to TDD I think, which was worth the d/l time.

In terms of its goals, it's closer to TDD than Ascension (Ascension focused on expanding a relatively small portion of the existing game, whereas SoS adds new areas and quests to the game.)

Sounds pretty buggy. Anybody else give it a try, and find similar problems?

Well reading the Teambg forums, SOS is not TDD compatible as they both change the TLK file.
Which according to the beta-testers, is overwritten to search for the correct game files and so that the mods can use the new updated files they come with.
Hope that makes sense.
Anything non-WinDu should not work - complete guess here.
SOS like Epic Endevours is no TDD compatible.
Though i wish it were! :)

Haven't played it and don't plan on too for some time.
Though I have played EE and it is damn good.
Esp. if people like military type missions.

And you installed Tashia and Valen after SoS? This is unexpected.

It has come to my attention that a patch entitled "Entirely, Horrifyingly Unofficial Patch for Shadows Over Soubar" is now available from http://www25.brinkster.com/ghreyfain/

According to the README, it makes Coprith at least work enough to give you the original Trademeet quests. Maybe it'll help open up the rest of the MOD, too.

Well, I uninstalled all the mods and reinstalled SoS + new patch. Thing is now I'm trying to reinstall all the WeiDu mods and I'm getting installation errors left and right. Only mod that seems to finish installation correctly is the Crom/Ces item upgrade mod. Anyone else having this prob? For now I'm going to go without the other mods installed and check out what SoS has to offer.

*BUMP*

Anyone else trying this mod? I've only just started it and so far so good....its a nice experience to have unknown events occuring around the party again. But it does seem buggy -- I'm playing the new kit (Fence) and according to the kit description they can become proficient in any weapon, which they can. Sadly my character is unable to equip any non thief weapons, proficient or not. Also you're allowed to put points in set traps but fences don't seem to have setting traps in the special ability icon bar.

I've only tried one weidu mod with it so far, the ease of use mod, which partially works -- and I do mean partially. You're allowed to stack multiple arrows but not sling stones (for example).

TeamBG have now posted a list of fixes (access via forums) in a Baldurdash style, to fix problems as they come up.
