I actually enjoyed it, but I saw it quite a while ago when I first discovered Anime. There was also a live action film made of it, same name. But I don't think it ever got out of Japan.

Metropolis is a 1920 film , directed by Fritz Lang , i have a poster of it on my wall .

"Ghost in the Shell" is a must see .. I recommend like "The Professional" aka Golgo 13 aswell .

"Blood the Last Vampire" and "Lain" is pretty amazing . I recently bought DVD of "Patlabor" . I think it's very popular in Japan right now .

Its a damn nice movie.

Is Lane tha same as Serial experiments Lain? In that case its one of my favourites too, but as it is a serie I didnt but it under best movies.

Blood the last Vampire is slightly amusing imo, but I can say I think its that good.

I really have to enter this..
I'm not an anime or manga fan, but somehow I discovered
Nausicaa!
I'm not speakin about the anime (also totally violented in the american
version: scenes removed, dialogs changed and so..)
I'm speakin about the MANGA, which is TOTALLY different!!
If you haven't, READ IT!!
Even if you've seen the film, read it and you'll be surprised.
The film is for kids, while the manga, despite the normally "easy"
form of this media, is something that touches the highest levels
of art and literature!
It's a work purely born of heart..
The story, always so dark, dramatic and sad, but somehow joyful and
positive, has the most involving and capturing trama I've ever read.
Even more than the Lord of the Rings, IMHO.
Most of all... it's moving.
And offers a view (and a meaning) of life that goes beyond beliefs,
beyond religions, beyond sufferings.
For me it was... illuminating.

Try... you have the luck of having it translated!
And see the customer reviews at the same site!

SAINT SEIYA ! (part 1)

The review was made by Arythar Mcshido taken from his Saint Seiya page.

Saint Seiya is a Japanese animated feature which was first released in 1986. Up to today, this anime didn't loose anything of it's fascination. Saint Seiya is a story from Masami Kurumada about warriors called 'Saints', whose task is to protect Athena, the Goddess of peace, and to fight against evil forces. There are also evil Saints in the story who are on the hostile side. It is said that all 200 years the Evil will come back to earth and will try to rule the whole world with a helping hand from their forces. In the same time, the Goddess Athena will be reincarnated, to prevent the Evil from accesion to power on earth, and to save the world.
The story has five main chacters: Seiya the Pegasus Saint, Shiryu the Dragon Saint, Shun the Andromeda Saint, Hyoga the Cygnus Saint and Ikki the Phoenix Saint. The task of those Saints is to protect Athena and to fight against the evil forces and defeat them. The Saints are wearing armours, which they have deserved after a some years of hard training. Their armours protects them from external impacts and give them also some special abilities. The armour represents a star constellation, from which a Saint also gains his power, called 'cosmo'. For newbies: The cosmo of a Saint is like an aura. According to the story, everybody has got a cosmo, which he/she is able to discover.

The story (i.e. the anime-series) consists of 114 episodes and can be basically divided in six main parts:
1. The tournament for the gold armour of the Saggitarius
2. In search of the stolen parts of the gold armour of the Saggitarius
3. The Battle against the silver Saints and other kind of close encounters
4. The Combat at the Sanctuary
5. The Fight in Asegard
6. The Battle in Poseidon's Kingdom

Saint Seiya brings the subject "friendship" and "holding together" in an amazing way to you. The feature also demonstrates that the "bad guys" can have their good sides and they needn't to be only mad, dump and ugly. The enemies are not just there acting as "cannon-fodder", but they are fighting for an ideal they believe in, thus they have a reason to be, and this makes them not less interesting than the main characters.

Saint Seiya manga has been published by Shonen Jump, directed by Shueisha. Drawn by Masami Kurumada who's also know for his other creation "B'Tx"

Anime can do that to you.

Every time I watch Ghost in the Shell I'm reminded of the first time I saw it and still just as blown away. Remeber it was my first anime.

Well my first anime was Voltes V it's one very old mecha anime. But I got hooked with Masami Kurumada pieces after I saw Saint Seiya. And FYI SS got such a huge fans that a local Japanese station reaired them again - and Bandai release a lmited edition stuff just for it

Scifi helps

Little story. My first real intro to Anime was the Scifi network a few years back, like four years back...

Come home from a little party late as hell... turn on the tv and all of a sudden my eyes clash over this wierd pale tall white woman in some anime... she says in a calm wierd metalic voice... "hello"

I watch. I love. I become one with the addiction.

It was one of the Adieu train three 9 series... Actually in the reaccuring next couple saturdaynights I saw more than one of the shows... those Adieu train 999 movies got me HORRIBLY hooked, a cartoon that was mature... a theme I could love...

Short story it was yes....

Anyhow from there its been all over.
