The thing that really bothered me about Yoshimo was that he was the best thief in BGII and he gets killed off. It really pissed me off because I liked his attitude a lot and he was increadibly useful as a thief but because he dies halfway through he is rendered completely useless-ARGH! I guess if hes supposed to die anyway you might as well hack him to death- even though i am a man of morals-hehe-i guess thats all right.

*IN Best Fable voice*
You should really put the notice "spoiler" on your heading as your post divulges some pretty important info about the game.
Thanks

yeah im about to go play some
it should be fun having him actually able to do something rather then go in for the last few hits so he doesnt get the crap beat out of him...

and yes the thief selection sux in BG2, kinda half makes you wanna have a thief protagonist

I've never had a single-class thief in my party, Jan is a good enough thief, AND a mage.

this whole thief issue has led me to almost always have a thief protagonist. I am having a very good time with a fighter/thief PC.
May you walk on warrrrm sannd....

i almost never use a thief. i solo'd once with a kensai thief, but with TOB he was just WAY too powerful once he got the use any item ability..
other than that, i just find thieves to be a wasted slot in a party.
if you enjoy actually role playing, thieves can be fun.
I would be a serial killer if i didn't have such a strong distaste for manual labor

but neal as a Shadow Mages u should respect thieves and love them (expacially when they are too powerfull) :D :p

but seriusly i love playing thiefs, an Assassin is one of my favorites.
The whole seak up from behind and backstab is just great.
and when u have a thief yourself u have a better thief then any other thief npc.

Pure thieves? Pure waste of space. Use Jan then swap him out for Imoen. You get the thief skills BG2 needs, but you don't have to waste XP on them. Excellent stuff.
Past: Ascension
Present: The Broken Hourglass
Future: Return to Windspear, Imoen Relationship

I like the theif kit my self. And put a bow in his hands and he will hold his own from a distance and I love the scouting and back stabbing. Love back stabbing for 150 hp damage poof one dead goblin

ooh, Yoshimo as fighter/theif rocks, frind of mine is running an evil party with Yoshimo as dueled and he accounts for a full 1/3 of kills.

Jan makes a good theif, no special traps though  and I use him to great effect as a mage who cancells invisibility and illusion spells on enemy mages. If you don't have Keldorn's true sight skill this is really helpful.
