question: attacks
While looking at some screenshots, I noticed a weird thing: a Rogue 11/Fighter 5 seems to have the same attacks as a Rogue 16. (see this screenshot).
I always thought you added all attacks and bonuses from your different level...
Am I wrong, or is this another change to the 3E rules in NWN?
Thanks,
Geert

hmmm, that character is pretty l33t
I was trying to hover my mouse over the different equipment to see what the popup window said, but then I remembered that only works IN the game.
Anyway, I'm having a little trouble deciphering those bonuses - the attack bonuses for a 16th level rogue should be +12/+7/+2 -Jodmos the 3 numbers means you attack 3 times per round, (+off hand attacks) and each attack gets a different bonus. Anyway I'm not sure what all adjustments this character is getting, but those numbers on the sheet seem a little high compared to what a straight rogue should have, so I think there might be some fighter in there. I'm not that great at calculating multiclass character's BAB though.
I think it goes like this: an 11th level rogue gets a +8/+3. A fifth level fighter gets +5. So you add the +5 to the +8 and get +13, and a +13 BAB gives you attacks of +13/+8/+3, which would be the same as an 18th level rogue or a 13th level fighter. That means that this character has +10 bonuses somewher, but I'm not sure where. The STR and DEX are probably enhance by spells or items BTW since the numbers are green.

So this means that you get additional attacks with a cumulative -5 penalty (but never lower that a BAB of +1). This would mean that a high-level Warrior could take a few levels in another class without loosing an attack?
e.g. a Fighter 10/Rogue 10 has a BAB of +10/+5 for the Fighter class and +7/+2 for the Rogue. If you apply the rules that "BAB are cumulative for multi-classed characters", I interpret this as a a +17/+7 BAB total. However, if you only have to add the first number of the BAB, and then progress downward, he would get +17/+12/+7/+2. A *HUGE* difference according to me (all in favor of multi-classed characters...)
From looking at the screenshot, this is how I figure things are: the character has Weapon Finesse, giving a +8 bonus on attacks with the short swords she is wielding. The enchantment of the swords is +3, so this is a +11 bonus to hit already. A weapon focus in Short Swords brings this up to +12. Dual-wielding two small weapons imposes a -2 penalty on both weapons if the character has both Ambidexterity and Two-Weapon Fighting feats, which means a total bonus of +10. Adding this to the supposed BAB of +13/+8/+3, this brings the total to +23/+18/+13.
The offhand-weapon brings in two more attacks because of Improved Two-Weapon Fighting, at +23 and +18 respectively
Combined:
+23/+18/+13 main hand
+23/+18 off hand

I'm pretty sure that's correct. Like I say I'm not completely confident, but really if it wasn't that was the multiclass would be royally screwed. I think this way is just fair. And so you are correct that a fighter can take a couple levels of something else and still not really miss out on much.Originally posted by MegaToerist

The rest of your analysis of the screenshot fits like a jigsaw puzzle AFAICT....looks very good.

You are correct. BAB bonuses from any class stacks and you always get an extra attack when your BAB reaches +5. So if your BAB was +10 you would have 2 attacks at +10 and +5, if it was +15 you would have 3 attacks, so on and so forth.
