Armour Class

Post by Un-Maimed »

Havent bought the game yet - but Ive been looking through the info for the game - and this puzzles me.

To get THE highest armour class in the game. Would it be better to get medium armour with the 6 base AC, 4 dex bonous and +3 enchant = 13 as compared to the heavy armours that have (I think I read the highest of 8 base + 1 dex bonus + 3 enchant = 12???

Whats up - medium armour better than heavy???

or do you think this is evened out by point buy (if u put lots on DEX then u cant put much on STR???

Thoughts people

EDIT- this is in relation to a fighter tank.....
if the voices stopped then maybe I'd listen

I think its evened out by pointbuy. 18 Dex would cost 16 pts or 10 for an elf. Thats alot, i would prefer going with more str instead ! I dont know what medium armor ur talking about (i dont have the game yet) but i believe that a scale mail gives +4 AC and allows +4 dex bonus. (Take a look at the equipment section at gamebanshee, Buck has actually been very busy making this ! U better appreciate the hard work he put into it and go check it out right away !! :D
The only reason to go for a high dex with a fighter is if ur dualwielding and u need the ambidexterity feat (req. 15+ dex)
Or if ur making an archer. Just my PoV.

Did u by any chance mix the 2th edition rules with the 3th ?
(Thinking that the scale mails base was 4, meaning that it would contribute ur AC with 6 pts ? ) U know they changed that right ? :p

Yea I checked out the work done at the equiptment section. THANKS HEAPS TO ANYONE WHO HELPED WITH THAT!!!! it rocks.

Anyway - I think the armour I was talking about was the medium armour "Dragon Armour" (cant remmber rightly) and a couple of the enchanted heavy armours had the sort of stats/bonuses I wrote.

Cheers for ur reply

Also - if anyone hsa actually played with medium and heavy armour traits - who got the max AC???
if the voices stopped then maybe I'd listen

I had a character with 12 dex and full plate AC = 19
I had another character with 14 Dex and a Breastplate+1 AC=18

That answer your question, even with magic medium armor heavy is better. But full plate is very expensive. The first character with halfplate would have only had AC 17 since the bonus is +7 and no dex bonus.
It is best to be thought a fool and stay silent, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
