Hm, very interesting, it nice to hear opinions from people that are very deep into football. One thing suprised me, i didn't expected to hear anyone say that Sven shouldn't brought the not-so-ready Beckham, but in the and Glanville could be right.

I read Brian G. and I said that SVEN was not a good thing fir england (and people did not agree). seems after the hype has died down england is now realising they could have done better.

england played too defensively and played wrong players.

Ironic, spain and italians receive good news... :D :D

Korea lose the 3rd place for a Arbiter mistake. The Korea nulified goal was legal.
Korea- 4th
Turkey-3rd,

BTW, first Turkey goal, 11 seconds of game. Is hardly to see this even in basketball, 11 seconds. Sukur is the luck one, fastest goal in hystory of the WC.

Congratulations Turkey! A great game, highly entertaining, surprisingly many goals and a fair winner. South Korea played well, but due to crucial defense mistakes Turkey got the advantage. I am surprised and pleased to see Turkish football has developed so much during the last years, and their bronze was well deserved.

Korea's luck with the referees obviously ended in this match, their disallowed goal was very controversial. I thought it looked OK, the Swedish expert commentator was absolutely positive the Korean player was not offside. In any case, Turkey was the better team.

According to Swedish TV, Sukkur's record goal was after 10.6 seconds.

yes the other forward was clearly in offside, but since he wasn't contributing in anyway to the game atm, it doesn't matter where he was. the linesman knew that, but the thing is that he flagged the korean (ahn IIRC) to be in offside which he clearly wasn't... i can't really see what was the problem with the linesman, since it should be obvious that if you can't see the attacker behind the defender when the pass has been given, it's not an offside.. then again, i ain't a linesman  :D ;)

@Delacroix: i ain't going back to the "it's all the linesmen's fault they didn't get there"... still, korea got one goal disallowed in a situation they were behind two goals, even if it would've been approved... well who knows what kind of a boost for moral it could've given, but still, it wasn't like the game winning goal or golden goal that was disallowed against them....

i wonder what would've happened in the match between turkey and germany if manzis and sükür would've been in the forward at the same time like in the bronze match...

The win was described on TV here as a lucky turkey win and Korea were easily the better side. (i also agree with this description)
Koreas were superior but lazy at times in defense against the run of play.

turkey were no fluke side . most of their players played for club side galet.... and they did well in europe.

who wants the WC every 2 years? (scrap the european cup instead)

I went to a friends house yesterday, a party for some special occasion. A party I think, any way we head off early in hope of arriving just as the kick off occurs for the Turkey Korea game. We get lost along the way quite a few times  and end up there thirty minutes late. And suprise we miss all the goals, I think Korea scored a second one but the majority of people wanted to watch the rugby *sigh*

Congratulaions to Turkey, their play has developped a lot during the last years. So far Galatasaray Istambul's success in the UEFA cup was their best result, this time the national team went far beyond the expectations. There are many turkish people living here in Germany, and they've celebrated a lot in the streets during the last weeks. It's good to see the neighbours celebrating and enjoying their team's success.

In 3 hours it's Germany:Brazil - and if a miracle happens, this could be the second celebration here within two days.

In case we should win against all odds I'm pretty much certain that the turkish people here would join the party. It would be a nice sight to see people wield turkish and german flags together.

Half time Germany-Brazil:

Germany opened the game surprisingly offensive, to my pleasure. Clearly the fear for a German 0-0 and waiting for penalties-tactic was totally unfounded. Brazil found themselves in the unusual position of having to defend themselves early in the match. However, Brazil's defense stood up well, and Germany didn't seem to get the really dangerous changes.
Germany has managed to cut off Brazil's passings, but Brazil managed to find ways through the "Berliner wall", especially in the end of the first half. Kahn has so far made an excellent game, he is so well placed and reads the game so well, so he forces the Brazilian forwards to choose less good shots. Another goal keeper might have let in 2 goals by now - but the score is still 0-0.

Entertaining match.
Brazil is damn strong, but plays too much on individualities, while Germany played more as a team.
Before the goal they deserved even to win , IMHO.
After the goal, things changed, but again, congrats to Germany, they played a great match and Brazil had to wait a lucky occasion
to beat them!!!!

Side note: great referee!!! Collina had even the guts to contradict one of his linesmen, and he was right!!!
Now, this is the way to let people enjoy a match :)

Congrats to Brazil, world champions for the 5th time :)

And congrats to Germany too, they played well.

Brazil could use the few mistakes the German defense made, and Brazilian goalkepper Marcos made two important saves. Ronaldo wins the Golden boot, a great retribution for this wonderful player. :)

A great game, i've enjoyed it very much! Germany suprised me at the start when they go out and loked for the goal and put some pressure on Brazil's defences, and if it wasn't for the unstable block of Kahn they might have been still playing the game.Gongats to both teams for an excellent performance, they made the game look like it should, a celebration.

Gongats to the new world champions Brazil.

It is sad to see a great goalkeeper like Kahn do a mistake like he did on the 1-0 goal, but I am very pleased to see the game was determined during normal play. The 2-0 goal however was a real beauty, with Rivaldo choosing to jump over the ball to fool the German defense and put Ronaldo up for the score.

Maybe, it was the only thing in the game that kind of "hurt" me. :D

The mistake however it's not totally his own (i think) since we heard a lot of things about this new ball that sometimes acts like a balloon.

Brazil - 5th Cup!

Brazil once more in the final for the last 3 Cups and they pull it off again!
I mean, Ronaldo was just espectacular! Hadn't played football for years and comes back on a World Stage and creates 8 goals! 2 against the likes of Kahn! He's scored as much as Pele (12 goals) in all World Cup matches he's played.
Rivaldo was also good...before the match he had been constantly criticized for being too selfish with the ball, and guess what? He's the one who setup Ronaldo's two goals.
Great game to watch. Well done Collina, too.
Check it out! One of my earliest, and certainly, more creative threads! :)

I agree, I view the goal as a typical Rivaldo-Ronaldo goal rather than a goalkeeper mistake. I mean, where were the German defenders? They left Kahn very alone with the Brazilian strikers! Also, it was raining and the ball was wet and slippery.

@Lost One: I also thought Rivaldo was very good, he said prior to the match that he wanted Ronaldo to win the Golden boot for all Ronaldo has been through the last years, and obviously Rivaldo assisted him greatly in this task :)

Yes, Collina was also good, he didn't intefere with the game in any strange ways at all.

Tribute also to Cafu, Brazil's captain, who has decided this was his last match for the national team. A great player who is the first to play in 3 finals, runs at least a marathon in every game, and is good both defensively and offensively.

I thought it was a decent game but I just want to see someone new win. :)

Though Germany put up quite the fight they just seemed to lack the offensive to stick with Brazil.

Good game and one thing I like the most is having Collina as referee - The Kojak is a great ref and an excellent choice for this match Image

"AGUENTA QUE É PENTA BRASIL!!!!!!!"

Great game, Rio is under convultions of happyness. Fair game. And excelent atuation.
In national transmition they plat Senna winning music when the game was over.
Fair Game. I love it. :) :)

Off-topic(but nothing that deserves a full thread) : Just after the game I crash my car. A pack of mans dgriving their car force me to put fastily for left. Crash. Luckly me and 3 friend(All in my car) leave the accident with few injuries. No victims, in both cars. But the car is totally avariated in the left side. Luckly I feel. But sad for the car and the nervus state, very nervous I was, especially because my parents are not in Brazil right now. But every thing is ok :) .
