I hadn't realised quite how good a guitarist Jack White was. I was impressed... I wasn't quite sure whether to expect them to be good or not, it's hard to know whether just a guitar and drums might not sound a bit thin, but it didn't, they sounded great. Didn't see Elbow, since I'd seen them live before I went to see Isaac Hayes instead.

The Charlatans were the band I was most annoyed about missing because of my working shifts, most of them I didn't mind about... only caught the last 10 minutes of Spiritualized, but since I'll be seeing them next weekend I wasn't that bothered.

Also saw: Alabama 3, Garbage, The Coral, Haven, Electric Soft Parade, Alfie, The Vines (the frontman gets the most rock'n'roll award of the weekend, for jumping around like a lunatic, throwing his guitar around, etc. He was quite amusing.

, Tompaulin, Badly Drawn Boy, Roger Waters, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, and Air.

They ranged from good to great, I didn't see anyone who was actually bad.

@Odie well of course he did

A couple of guys (I think they were from one of the theatre companies) in kangaroo suits were jumping through the audience

I thought that as well, two members in a band always seems a little vacant to me, but what i saw was good

They weren't magnificent but they were very similar to the album, which i suppose is a good thing

Wow that all sounds really excellent, what i saw was good and you pretty much confirmed that, just think, there wasn't even supposed to be a Glastonbury festival this year.

I didn't really see them, I think I caught the end of their set now you mention it, but I was sitting down at the back so I couldn't see.

They managed to keep out most of the fence-jumpers this year... I heard that in 2000 they had 120,000 fence-jumpers

but they only had a couple of thousand this year. Unfortunately that meant there were loads of scallies outside the fence in the campsites and car parks robbing people.

Apparently at one point a whole gang of them tried to storm one of the gates, so on Saturday night we had to be ready to lock the gates at a moment's notice... wasn't any trouble on our shift though. At least it looks like they'll be allowed to run the festival again next year... it would have been the last ever if they had the same problems as they did in 2000.

@Odie Rolf seemed as surprised as everyone else to see the kangaroo guys.

Don't be such a grouch, it was funny.

Hey Georgi and Sleep, I saw a bit of the highlights on TV, I thought Coldplay didn't look that energetic, otherwise, fantastic performances.

It seems strange that people would be willing to close down the festival through their misadventures, rather than pay for a ticket

That is good, hopefully it will be as good next year as this year

@Nips, apparently Coldplay were looking quite depressed all day anyway.

@Nippy I didn't see Coldplay (went to Garbage instead), but I have heard people saying how great they were, and I even heard someone on the radio saying it was a legendary performance... *shrug*

Oh, Electric Soft Parade get the most unnecessarily long jamming session in the middle of a song award. But redeemed themselves partly when the keyboard player played standing on his keyboard.

I guess they don't care - apparently a lot of the people trying to get in were only after theiving opportunities rather than actually wanting to see the bands.

Frankly anyone who got over that fence deserved to get in, it's 12 foot high, with another 10' or so underground to stop people tunnelling, and razor-sharp on the top... pretty impossible to get past without some kind of industrial equipment...

Not sure... but it's the biggest music festival in Europe.

Well they did have specialized security guards driving around the perimeter as well. It took 6 weeks to set up the fence, but I suppose if it means they can continue to run the festival, it's worth it. Anyway, at £100 a ticket, I'm sure they could afford it.

Did they act like all security guards do; overblown ego's. I have never been to any location where the guards don't act like ego maniacs

Lets say that 100'000 of that 120'000 decided to actually pay this year, that would mean 1million, more than enough for the fence

You could always do like a famous band did, and get the Hells Angels to keep an eye on the proceedings.
