Well since no one answered this in my last post i will make it the topic of this one.
Are the skill caps high enough?
I mean a paladin can only go to 17th level
(Diablo 2 they could go really high, way past 30)
Another thing is about running....why cant they run in this game and does it really make a big difference to run...or do you get around good just by walking fast?
thanx
Skill Caps?
Oh.. they can run : just give them Boots of speed or cast haste spell.
The levels from BG couldn't be compared with levels from Diablo - there are two different games.
To be honest I don't think about Diablo that it is RPG - the best name for this is Hack'n'slash and it means that these two games have a little different purposes. Just MHO.

The Mighty Wizard from Eregion
The Eregion Wizards
Elen sila Lumenn' Omentielvo

The characters already "run". Look at how slowly they walk in BG1 - it was increased by 50% or something for BG2. Missile weapons are less effective due to the fact you can close the gap quickly.

IMHO, the concept of levels aren't the same for D2 and the whole AD&D setting (let alone BG2). It takes a lot more effort and time to level up in AD&D, and combat with opponents don't happen as quickly as they do in D2. Still, I really wish I can make my lvl 19 berzerker do a whirlwind across the map.
...ewwwww. What is bad smell? You been killing dragons?
I never played D2, but a friend told me that if you leave an area like Firkraag's lair in BG2, when you come back all of the monsters respawn.
That means you can get the experience much easier than you can in BG2, where you have to actualy search for quests and do them.

The concepts of levels, stats and even the classes (Paladin) are common in name only between D2 and BG.
i.e. A level 10 Paladin in one game has nothing to do with a level 10 Paladin in the other - they just connot be compared in any way whatsoever. Someone could create a game tommorow and say that you can become a level 100 Paladin - if they are not using the same 'rules' or framework for these concepts what does it mean? Nothing.
For instance in the Might and Magic and Wizardy series I think your stats (strength etc)could go up to 100 (memory don't fail me now). This has abosolutley no relation to the stats is a D&D based game.
Anyway the real point to playing a game like BG is not to amass high stats or see what level you can get to (although this is part of the fun) it is to role-play, become the character and adventure. I suspect this is the most significant difference with D2 - the depth at which the game allows you to go beyond pure combat alone.
Anyway - I am sure you will enjoy playing BG2 - it is a great game.
