Anime info, eh? just what i need...

hello one and all. since this is a thread dedicated to anime, which i love, i am asking for reccomendations. for a long time, i haven't had the access, means, or opportunity to indulge my love of it, but now i have all of those things, but consequently have no idea of what to look out for.

the stuff i've previously been able to find consists of ghost in the shell, a few appleseed comics, some ranma 1/2 and a couple of late night films i barely remember. i've loved the lot, but need to get some ideas of what to look for. cheers.

Cowboy Bebop: The Perfect Sessions.

It is an awsome series and the boxset is limited so I cant find it.... now you were right.

http://www.dreamwaveprod.com Is the right link, a good site.

I liked them too. :)
You could try Ninja Scroll, however be warned it is very violent. I loved Neon Genesis Evangelion and would recommend it in an instant, but Dottie didn't like it much. Castle of Cagliostro is a classic, but it's very much a mindless comedy, though it is very funny the first 10 times or so you see it. The Patlabor movies were good IMO, though a lot of people find them a bit slow, and to be fair the second one in particular is lacking in action.
You have of course seen Akira, haven't you?

The first ten times, and I thought I was a big fan :D

Ninja Scroll is pretty good, just don't expect every other Anime you see to be similar to that one. ;)

It's the only one all my friends like, so we end up watching it more often than the rest.

I love the car chase scene, superbly done. Some regard as the finest car chase in cinema history. And thats including those James Bond films. :D

I preferred the ones in Blues Brothers, myself.
Wasn't it Spielberg who said that about CoC?

Well no one can deny the BB of having the most impressive car pile ups, however I never knew it was Spielberg. ;)

As far as recommendations for anime, titles that I have really enjoyed include:

Vampire Hunter D
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
Vampire Princess Miyu
Oh My Goddess!
Golden Boy
Sorcerer Hunters
Blue Seed (one of my favorite series)
Sol Bianca (beautiful animation)
Perfect Blue (pretty creepy and fairly violent)
Crying Freeman (the first title was great, but subsequent installments slowly became silly. Some people might consider this hentai, but it is pretty tame. There is also a live action movie which isn't too bad)

Titles which other people seem to like alot but didn't really float my boat:

Metropolis
Princess Mononoke
Escaflowne
Those who will play with kitties must expect to be scratched.

X

Just saw this and I'm not too sure what to make of it all.

The animation is amazing, the script is impressive (well provided that you've read the the series by CLAMP) and even though it has the now cliched saving the Tokyo from complete annihilation theme. It goes about it in a strange manner, borrowing from the Japanese mythologies.

However it has to have the strangest start that I've ever seen, had to watch the first chapter (DVD) a few times just to make sure I understood it.

Apart from that its a damn fine picture

Umm I'll check around with my friends on this one :)

Here's a new one : Genzo Maden Saiyuki The anime based on Chinese fabled story Saiyuki or Journey to the West. The main characters :
Genjo Sanzo - the priest pictured here in a very different way. Imagine how a priest can shot a gun (A spirit Destroyer Gun) :D

Son Goku : Pictured as a kid who loves to eat - where on real story is the all powerfull Monkey King Demon

Cho Hakkai : Supposely a Boar Demon - yet I haven't finish the anime so I can't determine. Yet The anime portrayed him so calm; where on real story Hakkai can't get his eyes of pretty women and food - not to mention very lazy !

Sha Gojyo : The Water demon - portrayed as a womaniser and loves to smoke

On Saiyuki real story The white horse which rode by Sanzo is Hakku Ryu yet in anime Hakku Ryu is a little white dragon own by Hakkai and can transform into a convertible jeep  :D

The other chars also portrayed "differently". Example : Goddess of Mercy portrayed a very sexy woman

Also the main 4 chars, Sanzo, Goku, Hakkai and Gojyo was playing mahjong game on an episode ! :D :D

The soundtracks are cool since they got rock and metal genre feel on them :)

This is probably an anime of that old live-action series Monkey Magic, for anyone who remembers it.
That was such a cool show, I grew up watching that. :D
