at the beginning... some starting out questions

Post by Lothgad II »

Hey,

first of all... should I take Minsc or Sarevok? Are there any occurances in the storyline that would inspire me to take either one (I don't care if it is a spoiler, just tell me).

Also, I am still in the pocket plane, is there anyway I can still get to Watcher's Keep and the other areas I didn't go to before killing Jon?

Any tips/suggestiongs before I get going?

Thanks

Sarevok is the better fighter, but i ussually take minsc over him because he is more fun. There is nothing special in the for either of them, except that you can (Highlight for spoiler)

you can change Sarevoks alignment from evil to good

You'll be able to get to watchers keeps, but none of the other areas.
If I asked, would you answer? Its your problem. Its a deep, deep problem. I have no way to ask about that... I have no elegant way of stepping into your heart without tracking in filth. So I will wait. Someday, when you want to tell me, tell me then. -Bleach

Check Zelgadis' spoiler. I think Sarevok has more dialogue in ToB than Minsc and as far as Sarevok's fighting skills are concerned, he does have that (Highlight for spoiler) Deathbringer Assault, which he randomly uses and does double (or more?) damage. There are no real tips I have to offer you before you get going, besides general party composition, due to the diversity of opponents you'll face: make sure you have at least a fighter, mage and priest. Oh, yeah, and have fun ;)

There are no differences in the storyline from choosing one over the other. Only the dialogue is affected. If I had room in my party, I'd take both of them just to see their dialogue. (Sarevok doesn't like Boo, which results in some of the funniest dialogue in the game.) If you're playing a Good party with a Reputation of 19 or 20, Sarevok (as well as the other Evil NPCs) will complain quite a lot, but he (and the others) won't break with your group. (They would have done so in Shadows of Amn, but that has changed in Throne of Bhaal.) When you first meet him, Sarevok promises to give you information about your quest, but that never happens, which is a let-down, but that's just the way it is.

If you play Throne of Bhaal with the Ascension Mod, the final battles are a lot more interesting, especially if you have Sarevok in your party. I suggest that you save your game when you re-enter Saradush, then finish the game without the Mod, the install the Mod and reload your saved game from Saradush and replay the rest of the game. I think you'll find it interesting.

SPOILERS

Sarevok can't use stealth or druid spells (Minsc can), but Sarevok is a much stronger as a Fighter, due to his Grand Mastery in two-handed swords, STR 18/00, DEX 17, and CON 18. He also has a unique special ability called "Deathbringer Assault", which randomly does 200 points of damage per hit (I think it's about a 1% chance, maybe higher). Some people dual him to a Thief, and he even has INT 17 if you feel like dualling him to a Mage! I prefer to let him become an extremely high level Fighter. I also make it a point to select the dialogue options that will lead to his change in alignment.

i just got to ToB with my swashbuckler and i needed another healer besides jaheira...so i took sarevok and used shadow keeper to edit everything..i gave him the spells i gave him the proficincies(and a few hitpoints) and the innate abilities and know he is my healer!!!so you can take both and change one to whatever class you need... :D

That sounds like a good idea to me, Lothgad. That's what I did the first time I played Throne of Bhaal. I was playing a Good party, and it included Imoen, Minsc, and Jaheira, who had been in my group since the very beginning. The group also included Aerie and Jan. It was a cheerful party. The idea of bringing Sarevok along seemed kind of creepy to me, and he seemed like a very frightening character (and really, he is).

I've played other games that included Sarevok in the party. In my most recent game, I conceived of my party as The Three Bhaalspawn (my main character, Imoen, and Sarevok) who were opposing The Five. It was pretty interesting, especially with the new twists that the Ascension Mod added to the ending of the game.

ToB's boss monsters have enormous magical resistance. That, plus the godlike weapons you find, makes might much more of a factor in the add-on. Consider taking both Korgan and Saverok with you.

Also, if you're running a good party, Saverok's alignment can change. There's dialog with you that can encourage him to go through, shall we say, a a mid-life crisis. ;)
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Sarevok is a diesel DIESEL fighter, he comes with 5 * in 2 handed swords and maxed in 2 handed style. I gave him slots in halberd through out the game and was pleased because with the silver sword early on and the ravager later he is by far the best fighter. Note : I hate minsc
