I hate to dispute that but in the complete paladin's handbook for 2nd edition D&D there are several holy swords listed in addition to the holy avenger, though the holy avenger is the most common type.
Others listed in the book are
purifier +3
turns undead as a cleric of same level, instead of two levels lower, also has saving throw bonues against undead attacks
divine protector +4
hums to alert the paladin to danger, can cause deafness if swung overhead for a round
hallowed redeemer +5
causes all evil creatures to automatically save vs spell or be affected by the fear spell
What i'm asking is does anyone know if there are swords like this in 3rd edition officially, obviously a DM could make them but are there any documented version and if so where?

My comment; It really depends on what -you- and the DM consider a "Paladin Sword". A +1 [insert favorite weapon name here] or better can be considered a "paladin's sword" so long as it is used for and designed for what ever the Paladin's holy cause may be. Understand that with 3ed pretty much any item can be used by any class, and a DM can easily make a cursed item by allowign a PC to wield an item that does extraordinary things to those of an opposing alignment (such as a Lawful Evil Barbarian wielding a Holy Avenger).
Anyhow, here is what I managed to find based on what has been released relating to Paladins:
Dungeon Masters' Guide:
Holy- Attribute that can be placed on any weapon including ranged weapons. Additional 2D6 damage against evil creatures, or a negative level to an evil creature attempting to wield it. A DM can place the attribute on any weapon.
Holy Avenger-
Obviously at the lower end DM's typically won't give a fledging Paladin a Holy Avenger, so they may give out a Holy Longsword +1 for example
Defenders of the Faith:
This one is tough as well. Looking into the weapons section you'll see that 3ed is all over the place; ie. weapons can be used by different classes. Albeit more effectively by certain classes in this case Clerics and Paladins, but some pay no regards to alignment. Anyhow, here are additional attributes a DM can place on a weapon (other than Holy which the DMG gives)
Antipathy, Sacred, and Undead Disrupting where the attributes I deamed suitable for a Paladin weapon. So, a DM could give a Paladin a Holy Antipathy Longsword +2 (+2 to atck and dmg, 2d6 bonus dmg vs evil, Antipathy 1/day (opposing alingment creatures must flee a 60foot radial zone around the wielder), plus the standard 1d8 damage of the weapon.
The Paladin: recommended weapons section (pg 8) pretty much has you refer to the DM in terms of what weapons are suitable or to stick to spears and such, it doesn't give any specific weapons.
New Weapons: On page 23 or pg 25 there are no new specific weapons for a Paladin
Enemies and Allies:
I decided to look in here since I know many of the key NPC's bring in new weapons and such.
Pg54 Alhandra: CR15 has a +3 Holy Longsword (follows the standard DMG item creation convention).
Pg20 Rosal: CR14 has standard magical gear (+1 greatsword, etc)
Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting (includes Magic of Faerun, Faiths and Pantheons, and Lords of Darkness) has no Paladin specific items. It adds a host of new weapon attributes for DM's to create weapons (many are taken from the Defenders of the Faith and other guidebooks).
The Banesword (Lord of Darkness) could be considered a paladin weapon? DM and your discretion here...
Dieties and Demigods:
I guess if you REALLY want a paladin weapon.
This book also follows a similar item creation convention, for example:
Justicebringer (Heironeous' longsword), is a +5 longsword with the Defending, Holy and Ghost Touch abilities.
Yondalla's weapon Hornblade is a +5 shortsword with Lawful, Defending, and Speed attributes
I do not have the Kingdom of Kalamar campaign setting sourcebooks, so no idea if that introduces Paladin exlusive weapons.
So there you have it.
Other than that, then you will have to suffice with the plethora of D20 products that introduce tons of new stuff. Of note I would recomend Swords of Power (Fast Foward Entertainment) and Arms and Armor (Bastion Press). These add in 3rd part D20 D&D items. I tend to stay as official as possible and limit my use of non-WoTC products to things such as adventures, encounters, and settings, so I donot have those books to look at.
