EXP in neverwinter nights

Post by Dakkon »

OOOOOKKKKKKKKK i am seriosuly missing something first of all what difficulty are you fellas playing at? i was playing at medium with no henchmen/familairs ever and i beat the game at level 16, adn i did 98% of the quests..................Also i was a ranger, and do different character classes get different exp cause it seesm my mage is getting LOT more exp than my ranger was and lastly does having henchmen increase or decrease your exo, cause i could have sworn that was the case but now im hearing by alot of people that it is not..........

well I'm playing a sorceror at normal with a henchmen and I'm already lvl 17, but I'm not done with the game yet, so I don't know why you only got to lvl 16. I can tell you that XP is not shared atleast not in single player, and as I mentioned in an earlier post with henchmen you get several extra quests so you get more XP, not a huge amount more, but it helps.

So having a henchmen or familair does not lower the exp your person gets?

A Bioware Rep has stated that easier classes get less exp. Fighter/Barb = Easy. Wizard/Sorc = Hard.

Do you get more exp if the game is harder?

Easy difficulty - Low exp
Normal - Regular exp
Hard - High exp

Or something to that effect?

I dont know about the experience changing with the difficulty but the creatures are easier/harder to kill for the same exp. And as for the different classes recieving different exp I dont know about that. I played through chapter 1 with a druid/sorceror and got less experience than I did with my ranger/rogue.

I finished Chap 2 as a 16th level monk with a henchman. I can't understand how some people are finishing the game at level 14-16. I'm 17th level now, and if Chap 3 is as large as Chap 2, then I've barely started it. I'm wondering if I'm going to hit the cap in Chap 4.

Kill Fire Giant as a level 11 fighter/4 rogue and I get 7 experience points. (I'm not exaggerating. 7 experience!). How could I get any higher levels at this rate?

7 experience? I don't know about NWN, but in Throne of Bhaal those buggers were tough. And then were in the early 20's in terms of level...

XP depend on a lot of things.

Given the same monster(let's say Gang Leader in Penninsula):

-Your class determine how much potential xp you can get. Mage/Sorc have a really high potential xp because it's tough to play them in beginning, fighters get low potential xp.

-The higher your level, the less of that potential xp you get. The same Mage who got 400 xp from that monster at lv 5 would get less(200-300) if he is lv 6 or 7.

-If you have henchman, he will take a part from that potential xp.

-If you have a familiar/animal companion, it will take a part from that potential xp.

-If you have summoned/charmed monsters, they will also take xp.

-The amount of xp stolen by familiars/companions/henchman depend on their level, it's a pretty complicated formula that seems kinda random but so far I see a trend where if your companion is a high level one(a brown bear vs. a badger), you get less xp with brown bear because it's higher level and tougher.

Don't know where you got that from. Neither henchman, familiars, nor summoned creatures take away from your exp. I went through the first chapter alone with a ranger/rogue and finished with about the same exp as I did with a druid/sorceror using both my familar and my animal companion as well as a henchman.

Don't say stuff you have no clue about please.

It's ridiculusly simple to test this, find a monster, kill it solo, kill it with summoned, kill it with summon+companions, different xp each time.

Even in the prologue it's was obvious, goblins = 75 xp for mage, with familiar it's only 21 xp.

That hardly seems fair.
That would mean the femiliar would get 54 xp and your main character only 21.

We all try to solve these things and everyone is welcome to share their experiences.

I've read on several board that you don't share the XPs with any associates. Could it instead be that you get less XPs because the fight is easier when having a Henchman/Familar/animal Companion at your side?

Two threads of interest from the Bioware board:

This is a very good question, the potential sharing of experience with a henchman. Can we have a few volunteers to test matters?
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Frankly i think XP in chap 2 is bugged.
I get 5 XP for Bugbears while at the same time i get 20-50 XP for goblins (depending on type), that has to be so backwards.

In the peninsula I got 9 experience points per prisoner with a familiar and a henchman, while without the familiar I would get 29 experience points.

I haven't confirmed this, but I think EXP earned by a set party (ignoring the variables within the party itself) is determined solely by the level of the enemy, not the type or "difficulty." For example, a level 10 fire giant would net you less experience than a level 11 goblin, even though the fire giant would be *much* harder. So even though the lower level bugbears might have been harder than the higher level goblins, the goblins would net you much more EXP.

Magus is right, having summons and henchman raise your whole party's CR which is why when xp is calculated you get less because it appears you are higher level than you really are.

I only get 75 xp from prologue goblins if I am Mage with no familiar, with a Monk I got 20 xp like almost every other class, 11 xp would means you have a good class(like druid) and also using a companions or something.
