Never's swords
Can anyone tell me how to beat the swords in Never's tomb in the Blacklake District? They kick my a so fast I figure I must be missing something. I managed to sneak through to get the loot and zip out but I'd still like to go back and kick some sword butt.

Cant remember my level at the moment, but I do recall how I did this... it wasnt very professional, but heck, I did the job after all.
My char is a fighter/paladin, and always carry the sorcerer henchman with me.
I went in, killed one of the swords (had to use the henchman as a frontliner, so he died) and then quickly left the room. Rested, went in again, and to my surprise the remaining three blades where still wounded, so took another one out and repeated the process until the four were slain. Looted the chests, and stoneofrecalled my henchman back. It did involve some reloading, though, but not enough to reach the "frustrated" level
Good luck!

@Wooly: All hail the undisputed -LORD OF CHEESE- I'll have to admit, it does get the job done though...
Lost Souls: A bereft lover. A masterless familiar. Friends gone their separate ways. Time marches on, and destiny heralds the meeting of comrades old and new. Can they find what they're seeking? Or will the search bring them only more pain?
Oh, and btw, there's a topic just down the page linking to another topic discussing the exact same thing as here. Just for your...information.

With each kill, I grow wiser, and with added wisdom, I grow stronger.

I needed to run. Two swords were on me and I had to get them onto my followers. The only way I could do it was to go round the pyramid. My Wizard just doesn't have the hit points.
The first time that I played I mostly just fought them as a warrior.
I finished as a warrior/rogue. Now in chapter 3 as a Wizard.

Hehe I just slaughtered those guys...now where is that quote from? Anyway, Me a level 8 Ninja dual-wielding Dwarf and Grimgnaw absolutely wasted them. No problems.

@Wooly: I understand. Ah, the good old days of BG, when I was a lowly mage and didn't know how to change formation...a very bad thing not to know. Needless to say I did a lot of running and dying.

I beat Never's Swords without losing my henchman. It was hard but this is how I did it with my level 7 paladin with a Harbringer Kin +1 Greatsword and Armor of Comfort.
I used potions just before entering, lots of them. I used a potion of endurance, a potion of Bull's Strength, a potion of Cat's Grace, a potion of Barkskin, and a potion of Speed. Also, it helps to have 5-6 cure serious wounds potions.
I have Sharwyn as a henchman and I have her in archer mode.
Basically when you enter, you run right up to the closest sword and beat on it and watch your hp, if you did it right all the swords will focus on you giving your henchman the opportunity to cheap shot them and help buff/heal you while you smash them (3 hits per sword with the Harbringer). Fun battle once you know how to beat it.

I beat the swords with my rogue. I used a wand that I had found to summon a creature. Then drank a hast potion and then went into the room with the swords. Before my badger chased after this I ran to the other stair case and turned around. For some reason, not all 4 swords wanted to come up that stair case, so I started hitting them with the feyduster shortsword. Occasionally I would stun one (at that point I would heal myself) and keep going. They eventually passed away. And sorry to say, so did my badger.
"May your forehead grow like the mighty oak."
"May a thousand camel fleas nest in your armpits."
"May a thousand camel fleas nest in your armpits."
I hate those swords! My monk(4) rogue (2) finally beat with these tactics:
- Drank potions of Barkskin, Owl's Wisdom and Cat's Grace, which increased my AC by 5 points overall.
- On entering the room I ran down the steps to the right and then behind the steps. If you're lucky only one or two swords will follow you.
- Fight the swords behind the stairs. Even if all four swords follow you, if you stand just behind the back corner of the stairs only one or two will be able to attack you at once.
- Drink lots of healing potions!
It still took me three attempts to get this right, but it should work for many characters because my monk/rogue is a pretty weak character compared to most. The main tactic is running behind the stairs. The extra AC helped a little, but even with 25+ AC they were still hitting me more times than they missed.
This tactic will work even better if you don't mind a little cheeze: simply use the stone of recall when you run round the back of the stairs and then portal back in with your henchman (who died while you were running). I would think this would work well with Linu because she can stand her ground behind you and cast healing spells while you fight.
