Get Rich Quick! (minor spoiler)
Get Rich Quick! (minor spoiler)
I bet many of you know that in Ch. 2 there's a merchant in Port Llast that sells items at a discount rate. Goes by the name of Alhelor. But what you might not have noticed is that he also gives you more money for sold items! In both cases, the difference from other merchants is significant. He sells items at 66% the normal rate, and buys them from you at 185% the normal rate. Granted, you can't actually make money off of it like in Planescape: Torment, but the extra money for sold items adds up quick. I'm less than halfway through Ch. 2, and I already have 60,000 GP, and that's after upgrading. Just a little tip for those of you who want all that oh-so-expensive equipment early on...
*spoiler* (highlight to read)
And yes, I do know something's going to happen to Alhelor. I attacked him just for the hell of it one time... I'll just have to finish *that* quest last.

Lost Souls: A bereft lover. A masterless familiar. Friends gone their separate ways. Time marches on, and destiny heralds the meeting of comrades old and new. Can they find what they're seeking? Or will the search bring them only more pain?
Not the shady character. I'm talking about Alhelor, the anti-lycanthrope merchant in the Inn. I checked specifically with two different items, and noticed significant differences in countless more, so it's not just a quirk. Somebody else want to test it? It might be a bug that's just happening for me...though I kind of doubt it. Or maybe you have to take the werewolf quest first to get the discounts.

I started a new game in Ch.2 to test it, and I still got the discount, even without doing anything else.

I've checked him on a few items against The Cracked Anvil's prices, and they were identical. Can you offer up some examples, along with relevant prices from the two merchants?
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
Ok, here you go. The Potion of Serious Wounds was already in my inventory, and I first bought the Shortsword +1 from Alhelor.
Potion of Serious Wounds
Alhelor Haljal (Cracked Anvil)
buy 66 GP 99 GP
sell 42 GP 23 GP
Shortsword +1
Alhelor Haljal
buy 1638 GP 2457 GP
sell 1064 GP 573 GP
Do the math, and you get the ratios I got in my first post. I used a Feyduster +1 and Shortsword +2 for the first post, but since those can be hard to come by, this time I used more common items so it can be tested easier.
Edit: Sorry, the board's auto-format took out the spacing. Click quote to see it as I wrote it, which should be easier to read.

Sure, that might be what you end the chapter at, but what about the beginning? Wouldn't it be nice to have some of the those good items early on? It's not like it's a bug or anything (I think). Buying and selling from Alhelor is just good business. And I'm sure Ch.3 has some good items to offer early on as well.

Ok, ok, I give up. If you don't want an extra 50,000 GP by the end of Ch. 2, then that's your choice. In the long run, it's just a piddance anyway. I heard people complaining about a lack of money in Ch.2, so I just thought this would help.

Well it's good to know that I'm not the only crackpot who's gotten this. Perhaps the American version has it, but the International version doesn't for some reason?

Yes, they should at least limit him to saying that once per entering the area. That's the trade-off for dealing with him, I suppose.
