Ok, i hear everywhere how good Minsc is supposed to be, and blablabla.

Personally i hate Minsc for his disgustngpersonality, but what i want to know is what makes him so good?

He has ok stats for a fightertype, although there are plenty of items that can raise STR even higher.

He has this Berzerk-thingie, first time he used that he went mad and attacked ME instead of the enemies, so that sucks as well.

Well, as for spells, having crapstats for casting and resisting them... He is human so his magic protection is kinda sucky..

Now, Korgan, there is a real fighter, but also Anomen, Keldorn and Mazzy serves me better, in fact Mazzy is better than him in more or less everything, just give her a strength girdle.

I must say that I kinda agree with Sigurd. Minsc isn't really that good. I've just gotten so used to having him around that a can't let him down. And Boo would miss me. Actually it hasn't even accured to me that I could play without Minsc in my party. Maybe I'll dump him for Keldorn or Mazzy.

Sigurd, you're right.....IMO he's good only for his dialogues......Valygar is more powerful......

I can't imagine a party without Minsc.
He's the NPC with the best STR. Of course, with all those STR-improving items out there...

Sigurd is right and not at the same time (IMDO). when you look at Minsc he doesn't have anything outstanding like Sigurd says but if you look past that he somehow seems works very well in many partys for some reason that is why he almost always have a place in my party even if they are evil.

He's pretty good.

With that high str, you can save the girldes for your other characters

He has high HP, berserk is great (maze etc?), he gets +4 Vs Vampires (you guys like Bodhi or something?!), he can go stealthy with the right armour, he can wield the mace of disruption with skill, he is a demon with 2-handed swords (++ in 2H swords, ++ in 2H weapons) - of which there are some excelent ones in the game. He can cast priest/druid spells.

Anything else? Oh yeah, he has Boo and some of the best lines in the game

Katanas??? He has 2 stars in 2h-weapon and 2 stars in mace (1-h). So if you give him katanas (i've also thought that) you loose 2 stars....

What's wrong with switching weapons?

Mincs is awesome witha 2H sword. But he can wield a mace when he has to. Give him ++ in another weapon and a 3rd + in 2 weapon style and he can dual wield anything.

I give him axes and let him go Korgan on peoples' @$$e$

Are you sure about that 2 stars in 2h weapons, I am positive in my game it is 2 stars in 2-weapon style. In any case in Minsc/vs Valygar I would say Minsc definitely wins out in that comparison... Mostly because he is MUCH easier to tank up. You can throw full platemail type stuff on him and give him a decent AC with two weapons, even if I am wrong about the 2 weapon style he still levels up enough times to give him 4 proficiency slots to play with, simply put two in two-weapon and two in whatever else you want him to use.

This makes him a great "toolbox" character for different situtations. I tend to spend his intitial proficiences on flail and arm him with FOA in primary and defender of Easthaven in second (works almost as good as a shield, plus gives great melee resistance bonus, and hits as a +3 weapon!) Vs. undead I switch to mace of disruption (which hits as a +5 by the way, even though the enchanment says +2). I find blunt damage the most useful as it affects everything, but I'm sure a hammer variation with CF would be interesting.

Valygar really can't tank anywhere near as well, because of his armor problems, (even though the family armor is OK). I find I end up gulping a lot of potions unless I use him solely as sneak attack.

ahh now we know why =]

1.+2 two handed weapons +2 two handed sword. give him lilacor at beginning o game, then silver sword when u find it. other awesome combinations (FoA and Defender) work perfect too, as FoA can get past the stoneskin of the pesky mages. U have so many options of weapons when u use minsc.

2. He can wear any armor, and with gauntlets of dex even better ac than many other.

3. berseker rage, if known how to use, DOES NOT hurt your party at all. if your mage protagonist was attacking a group of kobolds when minsc was wiping em out, of course he ll attack anyone near him! just stay away from him a lil bit, and he ll do his job.there are some situations where maze spell is involved (e.g. some traps that u cannot disarm) u need berserk minsc there. dephinitely u need.)

4. he s a ranger, despite his berserker ability. its fun to charm dears and horses in slums, or the attacking black bear in forest. he now has 3/3/3 priest spells, u might say they suck but 3 insect cloud, 3 heal and 3 protection from fire/cold are spells that we all use. not to mention his ability to hide when wearing correct armor.

5. his strenght is best in game, letting u use the girdles gauntlets etc on other players. (or simply forging crom f.). With 2handed swords, he has very nice thaco and does some kewl damage. he can be hasted, improved hasted and oh my god oh my god =]

6.he s loyal and he duz not try to steal any girls in ur party just like that stupid little piece of anomen or others.

7. he has best battle cries, noone can argue about that. his +4 vs vampires helped me a lot in bodhi, when u cast negative plane projection on him.

8. BOO the space hamster. we dont see it but he goes for the eyes of enemy and sometimes deals that 1 point of damage which we dont understand where it came from

now for the bad sides:
1. human-magic resistance. the magic resistance items in game (amulets etc) cannot be mostly used by a fighter. what one can do is equip ring of gaxx and use flame of the north when magic resistance is needed.still %20 and he can be confused and stunned very easy.

2. he wont do good in too evil party.

other than that i dont know 8 vs 2, minsc proves to be a "good" member of a party in this game, whatever u guys say in my opinion.

Minsc is great. He's one of the more versatile characters and can really step up when needed.

Although I tend to switch back and forth between different weapons, I've nearly exclusively used him as an axe thrower rather than a core melee (mostly because I'm a paladin with carsomyr).

But if you really want to maximize Minsc, make sure to add in the spells. Since I've started using armor of faith, he's nearly unstoppable. And call lightening, once it's cast, stays around and the caster can do other stuff. And yes, I do have Minsc in plate armor - no mage can do that. Then, there's vailor's helm (which does simulcrum) and the daystar (which casts sunray). With a simulcrum and 2 sunrays - no vampires get through (or liches for that matter).

Absent Korgan, minsc is probably the best core fighter npc - and maybe even beat korgan depending upon spells and equipment.

hm, your good parts are kinda bad though, as most is true for almost everyone. as for spells, let a real magicuser cast, berzerker rage is dangerous if you want to run there with many fighters, and he cant retreat while berzerked, armour, weapon and so on is true for all fighters more or less.

there are 3 girdles, so str isnt a problem, how many people need more than 3 fighters?

Compare Minsc with Korgan, the little dwarf is better than Minsc in most ways, magic resistance, attack and also personality.

Who wants a disgusting human running around with a rat! Who knows what he do with that "pet" of his..

sigurd, so now you say you like Korgan's personality? And you like it more than Minsc's??? Man, you're SICK! Korgan gets along with no one and is a real pain in the a$$! Of course, this is only my opinion. I can't argue with Korgan being a good fighter. But I gotta say, Minsc's base stats are so so good, especially in combat. Plus, I've never had problems with the berserk-ability and with that on, he becomes a real killingmachine! AND he's got one of the best lines and dialogues in the whole game! And yet sigurd, have you ever noticed that many of the spells can only be cast on the caster. With the protections on on top of everything else: AWW S***! Conclusion: he kicks serious arse and beats Korgan hands down!!!

Is he really able to wear plates too? In my party, he wears the armor of faith, because I think he can't wear Red dragon armor.

I love minsc and think he is a really versatile character and most of my argument has allready been said by others however there was one thing that hasnt really been mentioned.

You talk about only giving girdles to fighters. Aerie and viconia are both very weak characters who could do with a strength boost. viconia needs it towear plate and full plate armour and both of them need it to use decent shields and weapons.

minsc equipped with lilacor (or the silver blade) and the heart seeker is one badass mother you would not want to mess with. Arm him with the improved mace of disruption and another decent mace and he can whack vampires in no time.
