Habib Khalid...(something)

Post by RubberChick »

I got jumped by a guy in the docks districkt. He came up to me when I entered the city and said his name (Habib Khalid...something) and something like "I can't be captured" Then he tried to attack Yoshimo, did 2 dmg and said " ups, that usually works..." and then he was gone.
Anyone know who this guy is or if he plays any sugnificant role in the game ?
Or is he just there to puzzle players like me ?

He is there to puzzle Image

Go to the temple (after meating him) in Wakeens Promonade (can't remember, think it is Illmater?)
and you'll get more information.

He is fun - although he should have casted a +5 scimitar Image

I think he is just there to puzzle people. I read somewhere, I think on this board, that this Habib person is some kind of joke from the game manufacturer. There was a competition where people could send in their most interesting character (probably from PnP gaming) and this Habib figure was the character that won the contest. So they included him in the game. There is no quest connected to him, but you will learn more about him in the Illmater temple in the Promenade. Ans yes, I also wish he threw a +5 scimitar! Image

Habib made the mistake of tossing his scimitar at my Kensai once while my AI was one. Saddly, Habib is no longer with us. He doesn't hang around long after the toss, but it was long enough for one swipe of Celestial Fury.

Usually he throws a scimitar at someone in your party, but it's just a non magical, plain scimitar.

I've posted this before, but I still lay claim to the best/worst encounter with Habib story:

I'm in the promenade and get jumped by some Vampires. In the melee, Aerie gets killed, but that's alright, I think, I've got the money and there's a temple right up the stairs...

So I saunter into the Temple of Ilmater, get Aerie raised, and I'm preparing to heal her when suddenly she cries out in pain and dies.

What the Hell?!? I'm thinking, only to be informed of Habib's peculiar method of donating to the temple, namely, throwing his coins in through the door. The 1 hp damage it did was 1 too many for my newly raised companion...

I, too, killed the annoying SOB down in the docks, but I didn't give him a chance to thrown that damned sword...

Sparrowhawk, that's the most hillarious death I've ever heard of in BG2! Image Image Image

(I never noticed he threw coins in the temple, I thought it was his scimitar again. Didn't read the dialogue too close.)

No, if it is in the temple, it definitely is money and it *does* damage. You even may pick it up after, there is more then 1g, IMHO, but not very much - about 20g or so. It may be random, though, say 2d10.

Usually I kill the bastard immediately but, the first time through I got jumped by this fellow and he did some damage to jaheira. Afterwards I noticed that jaheira had two scmitars in her weaponslot, even though she should've a sling. and when i tried to remove it, it just said can't change weapon due to using magical weapon. I finally got rid of it by casting a lot of remove curse, but I'm not sure that's the reason that removed the bloody weapon(your thaco was far worse than usual). Anyone else who has encountered this?

Argh!! I've had almost the exact same thing happen to me, only it was Jaheira who got whacked after the fight with Korgan's goons on the Coppet Cornet!

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

I had the same problem.
I don't think it's cursed, just buggy. I used SK to remove it.

This happened to me a number of times already. one weird incident was when this happened to my multi-classed ranger/cleric pc who should not have been able to weild a scimitar! I got irritated that I couldn't take it off so I just reloaded a saved game just before this happened and made sure it didn't happen again. Odd occurence though...
