The most useful item in the game for you...

Post by bob999 »

Apart from weapons , what would be the most useful item for you in the game ? The one item that helped you out the most ?

Early on I would say Gem Bags. They allowed me to make some money without taking up my inventory slots with gems. Invaluable when you're first doing quests.

Giving my character permanent haste with the Boots of Speed was nice, too.

I must agree.. Scroll cases, Gem Bags, Boots of Speed.. And don't forget scrolls themselves.. If it wasn't for scrolls the mage would be a wussy. Potions of Genius are nice also, cuz they allow you to memorize any spell and a lot of spells per level. Hmm.. I'll get back to you on some other nifty little things.

For me it has always been the Bag of Holdings. (I know, it doesn't come early in the game, but that's another story.)

I remember playing through BGI (Durlag's Tower specifically) and leaving behind me a lot of items because my party had nothing to store them in. That was very annoying!! The same applies, of course, for the first chapters of SoA.

Cheers

Obviously... Boo! All the way! :D :D

The bag of holding earns a deserved second place.

(Boo inside a bag of holding would be just perfection... too bad it's impossible) :)

And about who we could be, we actually have trouble in clearly defining the term "to be" in the first place...

I found the glasses of Identification very useful when playing through BG2 as they save spending money on identying in temples.

True, but it's not long before 100 gold a pop isn't such a huge dent in your wallet.

Whichever Familiar can PP. It's either the Rabbit or the Ferret, but they're just like a bag of holding, and you can have 'em from day one. Also Glasses of Identification, and various containers.

Well I have to go ahead and say that the bag of holding is one of the better items since any time you put an item in there and take it out it is re-charged. Which is a little cheese ball but when used for things like the glasses to identify stuff seems a little harmless to me.

But for me the next item of value is the ring of invisblity with the cloak of non-detection for a solo Barbarian this is a must to get the upper hand. Soon enough he will not need this he is going powerful real fast and with the special ablities from TOB. He is making ground beef out of most monsters.

Boo is great - but can hardly be described as useful, the ring of regeneration is useful but so are the animal summoning things.
The glasses of identification save time but I agree the boots of speed are perhaps most useful. Girdles of strength help with carrying things which are very useful also.

The glasses of I.D. not only save money, but are an extremly valuable time and spell saver. because of them you don't have to find a temple, buy identify scrolls, or reconfigure your mage every 10 minutes

Boo not useful? Just think of all the wisdom that pours from his little black eyes so much like the rushing rivers of Rasheman.
Tired of working here wanted a holiday was thinking of retiring probably going to die. Time to move on under down... down down.

The one item that helped me out the most would be the amulet of power, dozens of levels that have never been drained from my char.

Exactly. I love that amulet.

But then again, who dislikes magical Elven Chain Mail? Mages and Thieves can wear it, making it perfect for Soloing charactors. I love it!

not entirely true, When I tried to give my elven mage elven chain, it disabled his spells, I think it has something to do with pure versus dual/multiclass mages, because nalia and imoen could wear it without problem (as well as aerie)

Don't forget Vecna for mages (pure, multis or duals)
Way better than the chain.
Of course, if you have MORE than a mage, the chain might help..
