Windspear worth it?

Post by Kieran_Frost »

So what is the experience cap for a fighter/mage, since he won't reach level 17/19, what does he reach? Ha, you thought I only had one question, you were wrong.

Second, is Windspear worth it. I know about Firkarga (what ever, that's another thing, why all these difficult names, why not bob the dragon) but I don't really need the exp points and I only help Garren (is he the one from BGI?)
Thanks, Kieran_Frost

Well, Firkraag drops a pretty awesome weapon for paladins when you kill him.
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

Not to forget the Red Dragon Scales needed to create the best armor in the whole game.

You have to go to Windspear to get 2 +5 weapons, Crom faeyr and Carsomyr. And there are other great stuff there as well, like the dragonslayer sword, and some other dragonkilling equipment

Go for it!

Here is your explanation on how powerful your fighter/mage can be with the exp cap. This came from the strategy section of this site.
***
The experience cap in Baldur's Gate II is set to 2,950,000 for all characters, which means a Kensai that reaches level 9 will have 135000 experience points, leaving 2,815,000 experience points for the Mage part. Now, a mage requires 2,700,000 experience points to get to level 17 (in which he gets evel 8 spells) and 3,000,000 experience points to get to level 18; since you can't get 3 million experience points in Baldur's Gate II, a Kensai/Mage will allow you to max your Mage part, as if you were a pure mage.
***
This assumes that you choose to be a kensai/mage as opposed to a fighter/mage. I don't know why you wouldn't choose the Kensai over the straight fighter since their only weakness is that they can't wear armor, and Mages can't wear armor anyway.

As far as going to the Windspear hills, you do get Carsomyr, which, in my opinion, is the third best weaopn in the game, but I disagree with Sigurd. Crom Faeyr has nothing to do with the Hills. You need to go to the Umar hills to get it. There is a ton of exp points in this quest (the winspear hills). There is about 100k exp points worth of Vampires. Depening on how the random golems appear, there are close to 75k exp points worth of them. Firkrag is worth around 65k. Rescuing the kid is close to that too. Pluss you can pick up a dragon slaying sword and some nice equipment that brings top dollar on the market.

If you are a fighter(kensai)/mage and don't care about experience points or money, I say get the dragon sword and leave.

I would point out that you don't have to kill the dragon to finish the Windspear hills quest.......well, that's not entirely true, but killing the dragon is more of a sidequest, you don't need to do it to get the main quests XP IIRC.

Hm, you are wrong, the Crom faeyr is made from several parts, one part is in the sewers, and Tazok has the key to those sewers.

only bad thing about Kensai/mage is that they dont get the extra spells of specialists.. Well that, and they are used by nearly EVERYONE..

My advice is to go to Windspear. Not only because all the good stuff you find there, but also because Firkraag with a low level party was the most challenging and funny battle in the whole game for me. Image

When I played an evil party, I considered not going to Windspear. I don't really think it's a very interesting dungeon. But I decided to go for the most evil of reasons. I wanted the ring of Gaxx early but didn't have any +4 weapons any of my party could use. Killed F, got Carsomyr, picked up Keldorn, used him to kill Kangaxx, politely asked if I could look at the sword for a second (he really should have used that detect evil ability on me), promptly offed his ass and left him to rot in Kangaxx's tomb...an ignominious resting place for a paladin, wouldn't you say. Oh yeah, then I sold Carsomyr of good cash.

I only wish the game was designed to give me the satisfaction of actually placing his body in the coffin. That woulda been icing on the cake. Image

Thanks for the replies, I think I will go to Windspear in the end, but ONLY because you all bugged me too. Actually I like the idea of killing Keldorn and leaving him to rot, hee hee.

One last thing, can you only be a kensia/mage with that Shadow Key cheat, because I don't have it. How would I get it?
