Question About MODs

Post by Dimensional »

Hello

It's been a while scince I've been Playing BG Thinks back - september last year I think. Scince My return I have looked and found a Whole host of mods around - the descriptions of all of them look interesting.

However I am based in South africa and do not have the greatest of connections so downloading all of the is not an option.

so my question is this. can you please give me an idea of what the best/most intersting mods etc. are and why you would say such so I can choose which ones to get.

For intrest I would prefer mods which have greter charater interation than delux battles (though I enjoy a good battle as much as the next 6 legged tentacle freak)

Thanks

Jeremy

I would suggest a romance mod then, but which romance to choose depends on your personal taste about partners... (in rpg I mean...)
Where we came from, we don't know
Where we're going.... (even worse)
And about who we could be, we actually have trouble in clearly defining the term "to be" in the first place...

Here are the NPC mods. They actually all work together pretty well.

Kelsey (male human sorcerer, adds a romance as well as dozens of NPC and scenery character dialogues to the game): http://www.forgottenwars.net/kelsey

Kelsey comes in two versions, "Full" which is 16 MB and "Light" which is less than 4. It sounds like you'll want the Light version, which has less voiced lines.

The other NPCs don't really feature much in the way of voice work:

Solaufein and Valen: http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~weimer/bgate/

Tashia:
http://www3.sympatico.ca/sentinelsx/

Nalia Romance:
http://web.starman.ee/arnel/nalia/

There are also a number of upcoming NPC projects which you can track at http://forums.forgottenwars.net and http://forums.fwstudios.net ...

ok, j is prejudiced for kelcy, of course, since its really, really great stuff, and she is developer for it, but i really like tashia, as she is more fun than all the other girls in bg2, sola is fun for the very challenging battles...eclipse kicked my butt!!! and a bit of philiosphy in the romance interactions...

valen is for the evil roleplayer, and gives you a vampire party member...how cool is that???!!!!

so far, all the major romance mods really really are good, and jcompton's kelcy is the one that raised the bar and set the standard...too bad i like girls...

some new stuff like she said are coming down the pike, and my most anticipated is the

"alessa" mod!!!!

lucythebeast's much anticipated comedy mod, about a "sl$t" who is interested in "any man with a pulse" is going to offer her a possibility to write some of the funniest interactions ever!!! and some of the samples and suggestions are enough to get me on the floor rolling !!!!

the immie relationship mod is going to seriously change a lot of peoples vote for fav npc...immie got really jipped, she was often the best written for npc, but such few lines...quitch is doing it, go quich go!!!

Well, that was why I put the aforementioned dozens of non-romance dialogues in there, because yes, plenty of people, myself included, like girls. :)

I think Lucy's Alessa is a good ways away, Chloe isn't finished yet (which you can read about on the FWStudios site, although just this moment there seems to be a problem with the site...)

i know, alessa is far awy, but i really really like the idea and hope she finishes chloe, another mod i am really really looking foward to, and gets to work on alessa...

but really, i really am seriously looking foward to chloe, maybe cause i am male, and heterosexual, thus by definition a perv....

sorry, fable, sorry...

i am in trouble....

eeekkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!

had to be said, as the response to chloe has been very large and very nice, and all of us who love bg2 are eagerly looking foward to it, and most of us are male...

giggle.....

say j, what is your next project?? i think lucy, when she posted her next mod project, alessa, she sorta opened the door on people really want a good comedy mod...and alessa is just so funny....

it will be a riot to download and enjoy, and immie relationship mod is going to be just as anticipated.... especially since a lot of us who are morrowind freaks have just pretty much gamed it out....

we want mods! we want mods!!!

There's Kelsey-TOB, which will be out soon.

After that, I plan to do flirt packs (see Kelsey) for the Bioware NPCs, and probably a banter pack to add some new conversations between the existing NPCs, because I enjoy that sort of thing. Those should be quick projects.

I am calling my next major project "deArnise Romance", because calling it "a better Nalia Romance than Arnel's" would be presumptuous. Suffice it to say that I actually thought about doing a Nalia romance before Arnel announced his and I am not really convinced he captured the essence of Nalia in his approach.

great...really looking foward to it....you do good stuff, j, and while i have not downloaded kelsey, i only downloaded sola for the extra battles...everybody likes your mod a lot....

a new nalia mod, eh???

PLS, PLS, dont require the pc to be a fighter, a lot of us dont like playing fighter...and i hope you have seriously expanded the endings, i mean the official tob ending was serioulsy lame, and i would guess you are drawn to nalia because you find her wishy washy personality in soa, though she does get much spunkier in tob, such a pain...

No, I'll simply make it possible for everyone to grab the Keep, and not count it against you if you're another class. You'll have to do a little bit of convincing, but it won't be too tough. It's so, SO depressing to save the keep only to have the Roenalls show up. Screw 'em. You're rough and tough and you've got friends, just let them try to take it back from you.
and i hope you have seriously expanded the endings, i mean the official tob ending was serioulsy lame,
For Nalia? Yeah, it was kind of boring (not to mention inappropriate if you'd saved the Keep), but then, so were a lot of the things about TOB. I have this theory that because of Interplay's budget woes, the tight timetable Bioware was on required them to have TOB completely plotted and written before a can of Pringles ran out.
and i would guess you are drawn to nalia because you find her wishy washy personality in soa, though she does get much spunkier in tob, such a pain...

"for the needy"
Heh. I'm drawn to her because I see a lot of potential there. Yes, she's kind of a dumbass, but that makes her more like a real person. On the other hand, she IS well meaning, she can be sweet, she's good looking (I think so, her tiny on-screen portrait isn't very flattering but she's not bad)... and frankly, she's gone through about as rough a patch as many of the other NPCs who gripe more without much sympathy (her mother's already dead, her father was killed and her home wrecked)... I think she could use a little comforting.

I may also make it possible to "corrupt" her. Since some of her beliefs are pretty flimsy, it should be possible to challenge them. I'm not personally a big fan of evil NPCs but it's appropriate to at least consider it in Nalia's case. Someone could twist her around if they wanted to be a bastard about it.
