Help with new Multiplayer game

Post by evelbruce »

I would like to do an all mage party since I’ve basically used mainly fighters in BG 1 and
2, using mages to only break protections and occasionally attack. I think this will help me be a better magic user. But I have a bunch of questions that I hope you guys can help me with. I think I want to go with 1 mage, 2 specialist mages and I sorcerer. Suggestions? I think by using only 4 mages I may be able to level up fast enough to survive. I will determine alignment after I get suggestions, basically on which familiar is most useful. So here are my questions: ( by the way, I don’t have SK)
1. I’ve created my characters and exported them, how do I start my game and get all of them in there?

2. Since these are all created characters can I have 4 familiars?

3.Is it possible to finish the game with a party like this? I know some monsters are magic resistant and I don’t believe any spells will damage them except for summoning monsters.

If you think of anything I didn’t think of please tell me. Thanks in advance.

1. All you have to do is go to the multiplayer section of the game panel and select a TPX game or something. then you start a new game here you can create all your chars and import if u want to. The firts char you enter will be the main char( this is the only one with a familiar) the other ones will only be normal NPC's without dialogue and any quest.

2 allready answered

3 yes ofcource you can and you should. as for magic resitance you mages can use staffs(staff of magic) and slings( sling of avoreen) with stone skin you are almost invincable or just use summons and let them hack you foes :D you can also use lower magic resist in BG2. The monsters you cannot kill like clay golems or such you can just lock into a room and run away from them :D

When I played BG with only mages for the first time I got to know what great firepower there is in anymage. Itwas a lot easier to kill than with my only fighters party. This is mainly because fighters cannot use breach and therefore have to hack their way into the stoneskins and improved mantles.

Anyway good luck and I can guarantee you that u wont be dissappointed. I now use mages far more than fighters when playing BG.

Okay I tried again last night and I'm still doing something wrong.
When I hit multiplayer game I get 3 options, connect, back, or pre-generate character. If i hit connect, it says i need 300mb cache size for this. I assume this is for internet play, When i hit pregenerate character it lets me import my character. But once I'm done I never get an option to start the game and i don't think i can import more than 1 character, if i hit import again I think it's overrighting the previous import. help!!

You need to go into config and set the cache size to atleast 300 mb to be able to start a multiplayer game.

Thanks everybody, I finally got it last night, there's no instructions in the manual for a game that is all controlled by one player, but after a lot of trial and error i got it working, at one point in the manual it says "after assigning characters, click on the skull on the left of the name" it's actually a check mark on the right side. But thanks anyway!!

Well, to any body concerned, my 4 mage party rapidly got another member added, I did pretty good in the dungeon until I had to pick a trapped chest for a statue, So I added a human, female swashbuckler with Branwen's portrait, and named her Hot Thing. She'll keep my mages warm on those cold dungeon floors!!

So I assume it's technically impossible to Sola the game with out thief skills?

A mage has knock to open chests and stoneskin, mirrorimage, spell immunity, spell trap etc to avoid traps.
Four mages shouldn't be a problem at all.

Stoneskin and mirror image will get through the early stages without any problem. You also have minor spell deflection right from the start.

so, ( and I never really thought about it) all traps on floors, chests, etc. are spells? except for spikes, arrows. Is that right?

BTW what's the spell for the green slime that falls on you?

Bruce Lee, you're probably right, but I'd have to redo my mages to get the minor spell deflection at the start, and I'm kinda taken with my blonde swashbuckler(Hot Thing), so i guess i'll keep her.

The green slime that falls on you is the worst IMO. Dont really know what protects you from that. It is not a spell more like take damage of some sort. Cant remember if mirrorimage protects you or not. Yeah most traps are spells, except for the spikes and arrows like you said. Soem of them are too high for minor spell deflection but by the time you encounter them you have better protection spells.

If you ever come up to a trap that you cannot get past suing stoneskin and spelltrap kinda spells (which I seriously doubt will ever happen ) then just try to walk as close to the wall as possible, chances are that you might not trigger the trap. Or else you could include a cleric in your party it is still a spell caster but with loads of more hitpoints and the detect trap spell :D You won't have an all magic user party if you include a theif but a cleric...
