BTW, the Staff of the Magi is only available VERY late. You're soloing, and that is probably the hardest fight in the game, since there are no real tactics to defeat those guys (Firkraag has the Magic Resistance/Lower Resistance/Breach/Finger of Death way, and Kangaxx is a wuss when using Spell Immunity: Abjuration).
I think any solo mage should go for the Magi asap. The Twisted Rune can be cleared with either: Prot from Magic or Protection from Undead (and probably using Baldurian Shield in case of a F/M).

My vote still goes to Berzerker /cleric, at least for soloing, as they are immune to everything with the right equipment, and 2 spells plus enrage. I tried this out against Irenicus/slayer, and killed his demons in a minute or less, before i started to hack down the slayer.

Maybe Kensai/mage is stronger, but i find it irritating to cast spells before each and every mayor combat.

However, the berzerker cant open locks and remove traps.. So swashbuckler dualclassed to something is a good idea as well, Kensay/swashbuckler is something i want to try myself

The HP isn't bad, since you'll be avoiding most big battles. If you do want to take on someone, e.g. they have some good equipment you can use, then just send a couple of summoned pets in there to do it for you.

my first class to play was the swashbuckler/mage and i think you should think this class as a pure mage with some extra habilities, i putted 100% in detect/disarm traps and open locks, and 90% in hide in shadows and 70% in move silently
i have specialized in two weapon style and long swords, i used wing of acuity/wizardry and this other **** mages uses, the specializacion in long swords and two weapon style is for that times when you need to use improved haste/tenser transformation(this would make you a very good fighter) when i used ghost armor/blur/mirror image i could kill most of the oponents

Actually it is quite possible. If you don't mind using shadowkeeper.
Here is what you do:
Play you firts class as normal and when it is time to dual you first openn up the save game and change you kit from say kensai to swashbuckler, save and exit. When you load the game and dual you will for all purposes have a kensai/swashbuckler. Only thing is that since you have changed the kit you will have no armour restrictions...

What do you guys think about a swashbuckler dualed to cleric? Is it possible to dual as late as 15 and still regain thieving skills under the cap? That would be awesome if it is possible. It would be the support character.

***Ladies and Gentlemen*** we fianlly have a winner in the "First person to pull 'rank' on the board" competition.

Give it up for the_pope! Yay!! Despite not wanting the rating system he is still willing to "take advantage" of the neat little system that tells you what order you joined the board. Congrats!!!

Hmmm, maybe, *just maybe*, my number of posts is testament to the amount of advice I flog around here? Sure there's plenty of Spam. More discussion, more advice, more spam.

Shot yourself in the foot there fella. :)

OK Pope, I don't want to aggrevate you. But did you know you could probably start a new profile... though you'd lose that member # :D

Way to keep the dual class info up top ;)

Hmm... Just a guess here... If I rate you as 1, you'll do the same with me, right?
Since I don't seem to have any votes yet, that wouldn't be too good for my overall voting...
D@mn this "You get me, I get you back" modern system!
