post em up!
one of the main reasons why im doing this is because i've had nwn for 2 months (something like that) and everytime i get into one spot, just one spot, in chapter 2 (actually its where you meet aarin {he looks so cool}) i have a jolt and start over. i've killed gulnan the yuan ti at least 40 times since i got nwn.

post you class up and why!

A rogue...I seem to have an affinity for thieves :D , and I didn't want to have to rely on Tommy for trap disarming......

Sorcerer - absolute victory through superior firepower.

Fireball is great, and the pixie familiar makes the perfect thief.

Halfling Ranger/Rogue

This class is like an improved 2nd edition Fíghter/Thief IMO, no armor conflict and the skills and feats combine very well. Since there's no party (and I don't want a henchman) in NWN, this character is pretty useful because he can deal with all those traps and locks and is still powerful enough as a fighter. Sneak attack, dual wield and weapon finesse replace the firepower of big weapons and strength, dexterity and defensive rogue feats replace the need for heavy armor.

The need for healing that would have required a cleric class in 2nd edition don't exist in NWN, just teleport home or rest and you're healed.

I'm also a big time restarter. I've only finished the game with a Fighter(6)/Cleric(13) but found the game way too easy past level 12 or so.

I've also played a ranger/rogue up to chapter 2 because I can't stand Tommy and wanted to take care of traps and locks the "right" way.

I'm currently playing an elven rogue(2)/Wizard(rest) and he seems like having some potential even though I normally don't play magic heavy characters.

My first character was a half-orc Barbabrian/Druid that went all the way to chapter 3. He was one of the most interesting one if only for the dumb dialogue an intelligence of 8 provided. Kinda like a big oaf of a tree-hugger :)

I am a terrible restarter with all RPG type games. I never get anywhere in MMORPGs because I always start over. I think I restarted BG2 dozens of times.

With NWN, I started with a cleric, but gave up when I realized that turn undead and healing spells weren't necessary in the sp game.

Then I tried a druid. Gave up on that because Tomi and my panther were doing all the work - I just stood at the back trying to get a shot off.

Then I tried a monk. Was great at first, but by now I was getting sick of Tomi and wanted to open my own chests. Also, my monk was getting rather powerful by level 6.

Then I tried a ranger/rogue. This is a very good character and I could have stuck with it until the end, BUT I decided that dual wield combat was rather boring compared to monk style, so finally I ended up with:

Monk/rogue! I plan to take 4-5 rogue levels and 15-16 monk levels (rogue at start, then at 5, 9, 13, 17 maybe). The rogue levels only serve the purpose of letting me disarm traps and pick locks. The also serve to weaken my monk so that she is not totally idestructable. I also started with non-optimal stats for the same reason.

Right now I am level 5, almost 6, and only halfway through the reagent quest. It's going great and the game is about the right level of challenge.

Well for my third time through I thought I would try a Chaotic Neutral Thief. I wanted something that might give a little bit of a challenge. I have beaten it twice, once with a dwarf fighter dual wielding battle axes. Half way through chapter 2 I was rich and killing everything in sight easily. Next up was my monk. After level 6 there weren't too many really tough fights. So I am hoping that the thief will provide a little less fire power so the game might actually be tough this time.

Let's see ....

3/17 Druid/Sorc
1/8 Ranger/Bard
10 Rogue
11 Monk
1/5 Paladin/Sorc

Some others too ...

I play MANY modules though, and hardly play the SP one at all.

Since i cannot play an Aasimar Paladin , Thiefling Rogue or a drow mage , i played an Elven Fighter/Archer (19) Rogue (1).

I am currently thinking of playing a Elven Mage with a black panther as familiar . I just can't motivate myself enough .

hah and i thought i am more or less a freak restarting BG2 24 times. Couse my friends always start with character and stick with it to the end. I just couldnt make myself doing that. As soon as i saw some enemies doing something great (great spell or anything) or if i figure something smart out to improve character (skimping something out usually strenght to improve other statistics and get an item later - gloves, belt) and i restarted thats why i know second chapter by heart but throught third and on i only played three or four times.

However i try to make an exeption in NVN. Before i started the game i constructed my character in advance (ranger/rogue)
and only then i started when i reconsidered what will i be able to do with it. So this is the first time i started and i still play it (very slowly = 2 chapter) and i AM gona finish the game with it.
perhaps i will 4 levels of fighter for bonus feats later.

14 average
16 +2 by now (4th and 8th level)
10 for parrying character i dont need much
14 for bonus skills and some feats, i just dont like my char. to be stupid - thought it is funny
11 lowest as it can get i wont cast spells (rogue's here with use magic device)
12 im not sure about that i think it is that much

i still get 2 points to distribute and i will put it in dex.

8th level Paladin. I dont need tomy to disarm traps... I just bash the hooker open, and shrug off the damage. (always save before doing so though, heh)

I love hybrid tanks with huge weapons, just my thing. <shrugs>

I drag Linu around with me... She's such a clutz, it's a perfect pair. Plus she fights well, and keeps me alive for those "impossible" encounters.
Elowyn, too high of level... wish I was lower... (Morrowind)

Update: I restarted AGAIN!

Got to the end of chapter 1 for the first time and decided that I wanted to restart my monk/rogue. Few things I wanted to change:
- Put no points in parry skill because I hardly ever use it and it doesn't work well when I do.
- Not taking exotic weapons feat. It was cool for a while, but basically nothing beats monk fists for combat fun.
- Take two points from INT and put them in CHA because I got sick of people telling me how ugly I am.
- No henchman. I find them all annoying, even Linu. In most fights they are two powerful, in 'boss' fights they just get in the way or I spend too much time trying to keep them alive.

Admittedly, none of the above really warrants re-starting, but when you are a compulsive re-starter that doesn't matter.

My previous characters have all been female. I wanted to play a male character because that seems to be 'expected' since the main NPC is the lovely Aribeth. However, all the male humans seem to jog around like monkeys and nothing looks more gay than a monk in a monk outfit or those bright yellow monk robes. (Not that there's anything wrong with that ;-) However, put a girl in a necromancers robe and you have one awesome looking monk.

I played for a couple of hours this morning and I have to say it's a lot of fun. Lack of a henchman makes the game pretty hard for this character, although it should get better once I buy a few items to increase AC. My main fear is that the 'boss' fights will be too tough because the one thing Linu did was take the heat off me when I got dazed/paralyzed etc.

The combination of no henchman and using respawn rather than re-load makes the game way more interesting than the point-and-click fest it's been so far.

Maybe I'll get all the way through with this char. Maybe. I sort of wouldn't mind trying a fighter/thief, a paladin, a cleric and a sorcerer. Sigh.

Bard here. Level 14. (See the "Being a Bard" thread.)

Playing a female is, uh, natural for me... and I kinda' like Aaren Gend so that may work out.

I thought long and hard about class before I started, because unlike many here, I hate to restart - "Get it right the first time!" I really liked the bard in Icewind Dale, and enjoyed being one in EverQuest (druids in EQ are the best).

Now that I have some decent spells and bard instruements, I use the Orc barbarian almost exclusively. I was getting to really hate Tomi, so I threw points into disable-trap, now I just add him long enough to continue his quest, then "So long Chollie." Bards get 6 points every level which is a nice benefit.

There are times I wish I had a good nuke spell, but I have the cleric's flame strike wand and the Wiz's fireball wand, so I get along just fine. And, when I sing (14 times a day) the icons now reach almost all the way across the screen.

Played a druid through first, simply because I have always loved druids. He finished at 17.

I've played an orc barbarian, a gnomish sorceror, a human cleric, a dwarven fighter, a human ranger, a human paladin, all up to levels 12 or 13.

Currently I'm playing a Human sumo wrestler named Phrai Pork-Phat. I crack myself up. And I might be the only person ever to use the "fat" humans...Fat guy walking around naked, with only loincloth, beating people up is hilarious. Everybody should try it some time.

Cleric?

Always hated those damned clerics. However, with the 3rd Edition new rules I had to try a cleric. Quite good and balanced:
1. Nice combination between melee and spells.
2. Strong but not enough to unbalance the game (I even got
killed a couple of times-lucky me...).
3. The domains stuff adds a nice touch.

It would have been nice to FEEL my deity - my cleric is "just" a fighter with some spells (though some of them are cool).
An ability to get guidance/restrictions/punishments from a god might have done the trick.

My next choice will be to solo as a wizard (now, there's a challenge for you).

I started out as a Ranger, got tired of Tomi, so I added Rogue. Then for kicks I added Fighter to it. Why I added fighter? I don't know why, just did. Kind of sorry I did though.

So as of right now Level 7 Ranger, level 3 Rogue and level 1 Fighter. So far so good. :D
