Being Evil - or rather, Not Being Good

Post by limorkil »

I started as Lawful Neutral (have to be lawful to be a monk). Trouble is, every quest I did seemed to give me three points of 'goodness', so now I am Lawful Good.

How the heck do you play neutral in this game? I keep picking dialogue options that seem less-than-good, but I never get any 'evil points' to redress the balance. I thought some quests would award 'evil points', such as the Moonstone Mask quests, but so far nothing does.

I can't even kill people, short of being a psycho and hacking down an innocent beggar sat on a mat in the city core. Most of the people you talk to in the game cannot be killed even if you want to - they are immune to damage. I tried hacking down anyone who annoyed me, such as Desther and that dwarf in the Trade of Blades, but they are all indestructable.

Any ideas for ways to get 'evil points'?

Being evil is not hard, have you ever tried to extort money from someone, threaten them if they don't give you. Also you mentioned the Moonstone Mask: If you know about Olefs quest then there is a guy in the Moonstone Mask who will ask you to do the same thing exceot for him and that will give you negative points. There are other ways you just have to try all diaologue options.

I made the mistake of taking my Paladin inside those nice Manors that are strewn across the different districts in Neverwinter. I didn't realize till 4 hours later when I leveled that I was suddenly Lawful Nutral. DOH! Well, you get tons of "goodness" from refusing payment at the end of quests. "no thanks, I did it for the good of the people!" 8 times of doing that later, I was Lawful Good again.

Want to become evil? Tell them that it's not enough money at the end of quests... kill random citizens... Extort money from the few people you have the option with. "Have you paid your saftey tax?" etc...

What *I*'m curious about is how the lawful---> chaotic shift happens. I've looted just about everything I can see, and in theory, that should be looked at as NOT lawful. =/

Odd, I had a lawful good monk (made the mistake of refusing a few payments and had about 100 goodness). I was wondering if doing the manor rifling for Ophela would decrease either my lawfulness or goodness (you'd think both), but I still ended that chapter with 85 lawfulness and 100 goodness.

Did you lose goodness points just by entering the manors? Did you "clear it" with the butler/horseman before entering? Choose the nasty dialogue options?

There isn't anyway to change your alignment on the law/chaos axis.

I can't be sure of what exactly did it. That was the only thing I can think of that I did "bad" in the 4 or so hours of play.

Those manor quests for Ophelia have no effect on alignment. I know - I did them when I was Lawful Good with the hope that they would put me more towards Lawful Neutral, but they had no effect.

Did you kill the owners of the manors? Two of the manors have 'owners' in them. I ignored them. Did you fight them? That might explain how your alignment shifted. Other than that, I don't think those quests are related to your alignment shift.

A pretty easy (and cheesy) way to lower alignment (from good to evil) early in the game is to kill the four nurses working in the Temple of Tyr, in chapter 1. They're worth some decent XP after the prelude and don't net you ANY grief for flatlining them. I killed one right in front of the 'good' Aribeth and she just spammed "Here, I must speak with you!" over the nurse's death scream

S_S

EDIT: I'm sure everybody has found this out too, but since we're talking of easy ways to shift alignment...

The streetwalker outside the Moonstone Mask gives 7 "good' alignment points when you tell her 'goodbye' and then give her 100 gp, to feed her kids. So if you have the cash and you want a GOOD alignment then she's *ahem*...easy ;)

Yep, you can do her OVER and OVER and OVER again... careful though, she's go the plague. ^_^
