HELP - Game Save Destroyed!
While I was looking for the Book of Kaza all the sudden I got a blue screen and alt-tabbed out the game then back in. It seemed to work fine except the sound didn't work. Then I tried to overwrite the previous save and reboot, but when I tried to do that my computer froze. I had to force restart and everything is gone. I even tried looking in my directories for the game saves ... even MP saves and I found nothing. I worked too damn hard to start over! What am I going to do?! Help please!
If your games are truly gone, first you'll cry, then you'll just realize that you can make a better party and start over. I've started so many games and only gone to chapter 2-3 with them until I realize I don't like the party. Especially if you're new to the game, I recommend only going up to ch 2-3 and seeing of your party is working for you. If you like your party great, and if not just start a new game, you're not that far anyway.

Take heart: I find it hard to believe that all your saved games are gone. At worst, only the game slot you tried to overwrite should be missing. There should be an auotsave in there, which the game regularly executes whenever you enter a new area. Check for that.

All I can say is, that's very odd. But for what it's worth, I wouldn't suggest tabbing between a game and other programs. Nearly all games are meant to be played as though they were the only thing absorbing memory and resources on your computer. By tabbing into other executables you're halting 'em in ways that were never intended by their programmers. Of course, sometimes it's necessary, but I wouldn't suggest it as a matter of regular practice.
I'm glad in any case that you've beyond the problem. Good luck with your new session.

Understand, I'm not saying tabbing will cause anyone in particular problems, or at any given time. But depending upon the system, the game, and whatever else is going on in the system configuration, it could cause major difficulties. Personally, I'd just as soon do without the potential hassles, but each to his/her own.Originally posted by Skuld
I TAB back and forth constantly and have never had problems. And my machine isn't that great at all.

For what it worths, tabbing has caused me many nervous breakdownw till now. Most of the times it's the try to go back to game screen that gives me a perfect game sound but a completely black screen.
My system is an average one (500MHZ, Pentium III, memory 196 MB), but I think sometimes has also to do with Windows. I had Win98 and then I had bought Win2000NT. For personal reasons (many of other programs I have had didn't work on that platform --I wish I would had known earlier
), I went back to 98, but at the time I was using Win2000 I noticed that my pc had been more stable and never but never crushed. And tabbing, well it worked just fine, going out and in the game without problems.
Cheers

Ok umm ... lol.
The initial problem was NOT be alternating windows and it really has nothing to do with the configuration of my system, which is exceedingly powerful. My only problem was my games being deleting during the overwriting process.
But as I said before, the problem is solved. It's called starting a new game lol.

Ummm... okay. I was merely replying to others whether tabbing is capable of causing problems in the game.
Good luck with your new game!
