Jan Janssens' Inventions?

Post by NiteWulf »

Darn that fat Dutch-named gnome!
Before he entered my party I asked for his skills, he said: "Magic, Thievery and everything I can invent underway" or something like that.

Well, I played the entire game with him and he invented niks, nada, niente, nothing!
Does anyone feel different about this or am I the only one he did't invent something for?

No, you're correct, he won't invent anything. IIRC, he was supposed to (which his joining line certainly implies as well) but it didn't make it into the game.

One of these days... maybe we'll work something up.

In the Kelsey mod, Jan invents a gadget for Kelsey. I am told by the fans it's one of the best things about the mod.

Nope, no inventions for me either, unless you count those Flasher things he can make once a day :)

That's too bad. :( :(
You mean it was planned to be in the game and partially programmed as such, but wasn't finished and the part-that-was-programmed-already wasn't deleted?

That's really too bad, it would have added something to the atmosphere of the game -like inventing 3 completely different items once a week which are good but not awesome and you can choose just one of them...... (Deus Ex anyone?)

Not sure how much of the programming that was done, if any. I recall reading over at PlanetBaldursGate (probably taken from the Bioware message board), that Jan would invent some things for you during the game. Still, it was a long time ago...

Three items a week would be a rather fast pace for inventions, don't you think? After all, an invention is something completely new... But he could at least have continued to tinker on his X-Bow and maybe done a weapon or armor for the PC as well.

Regarding your signature/motto, I take it you don't have a wife yet? ;)

I just started a new game and grabbed Jan and is starting line doesn't say aything about him making new inventions. It goes something like, "...and all of my inventions..." So check it again.

OK, to avoid any confusion here's the exact line from the dialogue where he tels tou his skills. "A fast mouth, a handy shot with a crossbow, and all the illegal machinery I invented." I do have the Baldurdash English Language text update, which sould explain why yours could be different than mine, but this is what he told me.

Jan gives Kelsey the JSVES: Jansen Sorcerer Visual Enhancement Sphere.

It's a big metal orb that floats over his head, and if you burn a charge, makes Kelsey look flashy. It also may severely electrocute him.

Jan gives it to him as part of their third banter.

Ah I see.....

Well, thanks a lot, I'll check the pick up line again - now i'm getting unsure.

I'd like to download the Kelsey mod, but 20mb on Very slow connection is crap.
Guess I need ADSL someday....
