Dual thief

Post by Jaesha »

I a lvl. 21 asassin, which I for some strange reason would like to dual into whatever I´d figure would be nice (any suggestions, BTW?), but on the record screen the dual class option is "blank" (cannot be chosen), even though I´m human.
What?

First of all lvl 21 is a little late to be dualing, as you'll probably never get your thieving skills back. And if you post your stats I could tell you why you don't have a dual option. Thieves are most often dualed to mages maing for the ultimate tech guy/gal. Just look at Jan the most versatile guy in the game. He's a multiclass but who cares.

STR 18
DEX 18
CON 18 (so I should be able to dual into a fighter)
INT 10
WIS 9
CHA 12

Yeah, I know it´s a bit late, it just puzzled me why I could not dual class at all...

A fighter's primary stat is Str not Con, and you still should be able to dual. I've only dualed once myself, so wait and see what others have to say.

Check this or make a search for more tips about when to dual.

*****SPOILERS*****

As stated before there could be many reasons you are having trouble dualing. The latest I dualed was level 16 as a swashbuckler, and that was in the Underdark of SoA, I assume you are in or near Suldenellessar.
The problem with dualing so late is that none of the skills of your first class will be recognized until you reach this level +1 level higher in your second class (21 +1 = 22). Im not quite sure that you have enough time and the game has enough XP to give you for your character to reach his or her full potential.
I assume you wish to do this because you got the x7 backstab damage associated with the assassin. This is a nice thought but you are a little late to start now (my lvl 16 didnt get his thieving skills back until I had finished off Watchers keep and Yaga Shura....

If you were gonna dual-class your assassin, you should've done it at level 13 (adequate thieving skills, and 5x backstab is really all you'll need when you get the fighter's extra attack power).

My CE assassin-13/fighter kills everything and their dog by a lead-in poisoned backstab, then slicing everything else so that they're poisoned as well, hiding back up w/ a Ring of Invisibility, and repeating and finishing the job. Later on, Greater Whirlwinds make it even more fun. And nothing, I repeat NOTHING, is more beautiful than a 5x backstab, poisoned, with a fighter's Thac0, and powered up with Smite.

And yes, waiting until level 13 is very wise. If you dual before then, your assassin/fighter is no better (in fact, he's much worse) than a stalker, who gets 4x at level 17 in addition to his own arsenal of powerful abilities. At least give your assassin/fighter the advantage of a better backstab multiplier and a couple extra thieving skills. Because thieves level up real fast, level 13 won't take long at all, and you'll get your assassin abilities back by reaching level 14 fighter well before you hit the original SoA experience cap (2.9 million).

I just started a ToB game as an asassin for fun, and was simply just wondering why it was not possible to dual.

@Skuld: Yeah, I know it´s not CON, but if I remember correct, you need pretty high scores in STR, DEX and CON, that was why I wrote it there... :o

Thanks anyway, everybody.

@Jaesha: actually, with these stats, your assassin should be able to dual to a fighter!

(As the blade I created last week should have been able too, afaIk)

But no hope. Are we missing something?

(Maybe blades cannot dual at all... But what for the assassin?)
Where we came from, we don't know
Where we're going.... (even worse)
And about who we could be, we actually have trouble in clearly defining the term "to be" in the first place...

Blades can't dual; in fact, no bard can.

Assassins can dual, just like all the other thieves.

Bards, Paladins, Sorcerors, Barbarians, and Monks all lack the ability to dual-class. I'm not sure about any others, but those I know for sure.
